Have any said why TFG possessed the documents after leaving office?

They have a slight sense that other people might not agree that he should betray the country, so they try to excuse it (documents are not top-secret really, he can declassify, etc). But actually, they don't care about that. Even if they would admit that he took the secrets in order to sell them to Putin, they believe inside that because he's Trump, he can do even that and it's okay.

It's like they have no moral sense at all. "Whatever Trump wants is right."
