I think I may have converted a Republican.

We got to talking about politics in general. Long story short he is a Type I diabetic who pays over $200 a month for insulin. I told him every single Republican in the house voted against you being able to get what you need for $35 a month. Every single one of them. You help put more Dems in and we’ll fix that. Nothing like making it personal.

short answer- racism.
we cant have a decent safety net, cuz those ppl will abuse it.
we cant have good schools if there are too many brown kids in the district.
and of course, you vote for them, cuz those ppl.

you get the idea.

I started with Rick Scott. He agreed it’s the ones at the top that are committing the real abuse.

I was painfully shy when I was younger but have decidedly gotten over that. IMHO if I’m not willing to take a stand how can I expect my representatives to. Ultimately everything they do has a personal impact. For me it goes back to one of the first questions in the Bible, Am I my brother’s keeper? Yes, yes I am and he’s mine. I’m not Christian but how else do we thrive if not by taking care of one another.

I do not see any useful purpose for Maga. I've tried to find even one redeeming quality of the cult.

I'm not talking about individuals. Oh there will be some who are just determined to be a nuisance, but most are good people gone round the bend. Shutting off the flow of propaganda and letting them detox will help. Any real attempt to covert Maga before then have a chance to get away from the swill is likely to be an exercise in frustration.

Is that many don’t care if they suffer, so long as people they don’t like, people who aren’t like them, suffer as well.

About them not being any different than him. I shared with him I recently had a nuclear stress test. It cost me over $900 and that’s with insurance. We talked about how many people wouldn’t be able to afford that test and would find themselves getting put in an ambulance at some point and taken to a hospital with a much worse prognosis. He shared his sister is having the same test this week. He said he thought preventive health care should be free. He’s a democrat in the making.

As a whole, people like think about others suffering, but not them.

Keep up the good work and thanks for all you do. Every little bit helps.
