I've finally reached 80,000 posts, and it's a good time to look back at how things have changed since I joined. I joined during the 2003 primary wars when we were looking for the best candidate to run against Bush. The biggest concerns were the "War on Terror" and civil liberties. The worries were justified considering that one of Bush's justices pushed for overturning Roe v. Wade. Bush led us into financial calamity, government ineptitude, and eroding support overseas. Obama came along, and his victory was a triumph for all DUers, whether they wanted to admit it or not. Then came Trump's joke of a candidacy. One which HuffPo wrongly put in the entertainment section. This time it was Jeb Bush that predicted how much of a disaster Trump would be, and he ended up 100% right. Trump was the "chaos president." He faked it till he made it. Unfortunately, he put the country through 4 years of incompetence, malice, and indeed chaos. He's been out of office for two years, and the chaos and treason persist.
DU continues to be the light in the darkness after all these years. There isn't another site for Democrats like it. Keep it up DU. Never give an inch of ground to the anarchic white supremacists, religious fundamentalists, and right-wing terrorists that attack our country.

(86,682 posts)It's truly a great place to learn and participate in so many things. And the main theme, politics, has more info than any aggregate site while also policing itself for trolls, misinfo and questionable sources.
Congrats!
