(102,283 posts)She did "the Circus" (which I didn't have access to-- other than a couple of episodes) and apparently impressed a lot of people. But, Velshi more than earned it--filling in for literally EVERY other anchor whenever asked. I guess loyalty doesn't go very far on MSNBC.
I guess we shall see and I won't say I won't watch at all, but I am disappointed.

(1,497 posts)was poorly treated by MSNBC. Maybe between lecturing and book tours, he wants it this way . But I feel as though this is a style over substance choice. Ali is one of the very best.

(13,776 posts)Ill miss Ali Velshi but I think he likes being flexible as the hardest working man at MSNBC, and I like Alex Wagner.
To each their own!
Edit: Yikes! Im an hour behind and I just saw a post saying shes going to talk to both sides. I mean, thats fine depending on who she has on her show but I like the The Circus Alex and dont really want crazy GOPers to get any more air time than they already do.

(19,201 posts)call them on each and every lie they try to push. If she doesn't there's absolutely no reason to watch MSNBC in that time slot.

(32,705 posts)I'm not a fan of bubbly personalities when it comes to political news shows. Rachel has the perfect mix of nerdy charisma and I actually learn stuff from watching her show (it's very adhd friendly, lol). However, for the most part I like hosts with an edge to them or if they're exceptionally good with analyzing current events and putting everything into context. It's possible that I might accidentally end up on Wagner's show and realize that there's very good content, and at that point I'd start watching. But my initial impression just based on what I've seen from her in the past is no.
watched Wagner in years. Didnt remember her having a bubbly personality. I dont like bubbly personality when it comes to msnbc. Dont mind on my local news, but not on national news.

(10,434 posts)I didn't see her MSNBC show often, given the time it was on. But when I did, I liked it. I thought it was a mistake that they eliminated her while keeping the likes of Mrs Alan Greenspan. Same for Tamron Hall, her show was excellent.
I didn't see whatever show wagner has had since then, but I sure will give her new show a chance.
And I do agree with those who think Ali Velshi should get a prime timeslot for a show of his own. Along with Mehdi Hasan.

(1,997 posts)How can anyone make a judgement before the show even airs?

(5,842 posts)I'll definitely give the show a chance. That's the least anyone can do. Criticizing the entire show before the first episode even airs is nuts.
Y'all do know that Velshi has his own weekend morning show, right? Maybe you can record that and watch it later if you can't see it live?

(25,552 posts)I dont believe that the suits over at MSNBC dont understand his appeal. I could well be wrong, but I think he relishes the scattershot nature of his appearances. If I remember correctly, his wife works here in Philadelphia And they have probably a complex travel and social arrangement.
Then again I could be entirely wrong and they are dissing him which would be a terrible shame because he is extremely bright and competent as well as engaging.

(28,262 posts)I feel the same way about country-western singers, and the string section of the New York Philharmonic. When I tune into MSNBC or CNN, I want to see and hear political and legal experts, not musicians. Ari Melber's constant groupie fixation on rap artists used to be a mere distraction---now it's an embarrassment. I offer tonight's show as Exhibit "A."

(11,738 posts)She said that she was going to present "both sides" of the political landscape, though actually, she never said that.
This is what Wagner is trying to do with her show, in her own words from an interview:
I spend a lot of time in the field, and I hope to bring that experience and some of that DNA to the show. I cut my teeth in cultural journalism, and so I hope our show would have space for voices outside the political mainframe, whether those are authors or directors or poets. I hope we can find some space to have a different cross-section of voices, not just because I think thats interesting to me, but I think that thats important in these times. We try and better understand where we are as a country and how weve gotten here.
