I don't get it. Is he a king immune from scrutiny or a regular American citizen? It's bad enough that DOJ policy generally prohibits criminal charges against a sitting President, but Trump is out of office and these boxes of classified documents were moved to Mar-a-Lardo when he moved out of the oval office. I am tired of hearing the media, politicians, and legal commentators about how "unprecedented" was the search and seizure of these documents. The mis-use of "unprecedented" implies that the DOB and FBI are acting in an unusual manner and it plays in to what the GOP is doing to sow doubt about the DOJ's intentions.
I get why the GOP is lined up with Trump. I get that they still see him as the great leader. What I don't get is all the hand-wringing by non-Trumpers about how this investigation should be more transparent or how it will enrage the MAGATS and increase the strife in our country. The only questions that matters is this: is Trump, as a citizen, subject to the same laws as the rest of us?

(21,349 posts)The MSM is owned and managed by domestic oligarchs. MSNBC is supposed to be so liberal, its 2 major shareholders are Vanguard and BlackRock. MSNBC has fired so many anchors over the years, not because of lack of viewership, (see Keith Olbermann and Dylan Ratigan) but because they went outside the right wing narrative. I am down to watching Nicolle Wallace and Chris Hayes, the rest are teleprompter readers, some are well intentioned but have no clue how to ask follow up questions.
It is only going to get worse because we are in Kornacki time. If DOJ is going silent because of the elections the classified document scandal will just fade away into the sunset.

(21,349 posts)Donald Trump disrespects the office when he displays the Presidential Seal, as if he were still president.
Donald Trump will go down in history as the first president to openly disrespect the office of the president.

(470 posts)- he did? The question posed was, " Why is the ex-President being given so much deference?", not "Did the ex-president give a rat's ass . . . ?" I answered the former not the latter.

(89,250 posts)They don't want to bring on economists , historians , other academics to discuss policy and governing .
They would rather report about Trump's infrastructure week than discuss an actual bill with infrastructure funding and what it would do .
The msm is similar to Trump supporters in that way .

(115,706 posts)in recognition of their former office and their service when they occupied it. Normal presidents pretty much remove themselves from the limelight and get involved in charitable work or educational projects. Jimmy Carter is a great example of what a post-presidency can be, and he is deservedly respected for his work with Habitat for Humanity. Even W has had the sense to lay low and paint, considering that his presidency was, shall we say, less than stellar. Ex-presidents usually recognize that they are just private citizens but with some extra pull that they put to good use. TFG, of course, isnt like the others and refuses to see that he isnt entitled to special treatment beyond that which the law affords all former presidents.
