Dan Patrick to 'blue' cities: Be 'on notice' for buses of migrants from Texas

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick on Monday warned mayors of big, mostly Democratic cities to be “on notice” as groups of migrants could be bused to their town from Texas.

This comes after New York City received its first busload of migrants from Texas earlier this month as part of a program launched by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in April. The program organizes charter buses to take migrants who have crossed the border and agree to it to Washington, D.C. Now, New York City is being added as a destination.

“Every mayor of a big blue city, which are most of the top 25 in the country, should be on notice. Look out your window, you might see a bus coming to you one day in the future, and the buses are going to keep coming,” Patrick said to Anchor Bill Hemmer on Fox News.

Texas’ migrant transport plan was created as the Biden administration moved to end Title 42, a policy enacted at the start of the pandemic in March 2020 that expels migrants from the U.S. without giving them a chance to request asylum.

However, I thought Texas was at the head of the war on stopping undocumented immigrants.

Treats people the exact opposite way that Jesus Christ told them to treat people (especially people in need)

Even more ironic that the cities that the evil fake right-wing Christians would call Godless, behave exactly inline with Christ's teachings (giving food and shelter to those in need)

While rents are high in blue cities and create a homeless problem, those red state cops and mayors sure like to make it worse by consistantly bussing their chronic homeless and indigents to states and cities with strong safety nets.

Honestly, undocumented immigrants are less trouble to us than red state forced emigrees that unexpectedly come with nothing but the clothes on their backs to be dumped on our streets.

More lazy-assed Texas political posturing. See how tough they are!

Being homeless is not a moral failing, nor is being the kind of place where they feel safe. The problem lies in lack of the complex and expensive support these people need. Shipping them elsewhere is cruel.

If they are officially asylum seekers, transporting them under that statute may be legal, way I read it.

They’ve obtained authorization to stay here pending a court date so they’re not in violation of the law. Usually they take a bus from the local bus station near the border to where they want to go.

OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL
NOTICE OF NON-COMPETITIVE FUNDING AVAILABILITY &
REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

FY2022 Migrant Humanitarian Crisis Assistance Grants

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) seeks applications from eligible organizations who are supporting and providing crucial assistance and services to vulnerable migrants arriving in buses to the District from Texas and Arizona. OAG recognizes the current situation as a risk to public safety and humanitarian crisis requiring immediate financial assistance to local non- profits whose resources are being stretched.

The Attorney General for the District of Columbia, as the District’s chief legal officer, is responsible for charge and conduct of all the District’s law business and for upholding the public interest. OAG enforces the laws of the District, provides legal advice to the District’s government agencies, and promotes the interests of District residents. The Attorney General may issue grants for the purposes of crime reduction, violence interruption, and assistance to victims of crime and other categories of vulnerable residents. This includes seniors, children, individuals protected from discrimination under Unit A of Chapter 14 of Title 2.

Purpose: The Governors of Texas and Arizona are busing migrants to the east coast, including Washington, DC, leaving thousands homeless with little to no support. These migrants and refugee-seekers have arrived in the DC in need of basic human rights like housing, food, clothing, transportation, and many other services and resources. OAG recognizes the swift action of local organizations to assist those arriving to our city and the strain this is causing to their existing resources and potentially public safety. OAG is pleased to offer financial support to eligible organizations that are working with this vulnerable population.

In stead of calling these asshats out, do your part and find a group supporting these immigrants and make some type of donation (then send a copy of the donation to said asshats).

Here's one group's response for NYC: [link:https://www.facebook.com/granniesrespond|

And from their 12 Aug post: "...[T]he medical needs can be great and immediate: one 12-year-old girl, a diabetic, got off a bus having traveled for four days without her insulin. She was seen by a Grannies Respond volunteer, a nurse, who recognized the dire circumstances, and assured that the girl was taken immediately to the hospital for emergency, life-saving treatment."
