https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/18/politics/unsealed-documents-trump-judge/index.htmlA document unsealed Thursday, which offered specifics about the crimes the Justice Department is investigating, including willful retention of national defense information, sharpens the focus on former President Donald Trump as a possible subject of the criminal probe, several legal experts told CNN.
US Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart on Thursday released several procedural court documents related to the FBIs search of Trumps home at Mar-a-Lago in Florida. The newly unsealed document was part of the application for the warrant and was among several largely procedural documents the judge unsealed Thursday.
Previously, the search warrant documents only listed the federal statutes, including the broad law known as the Espionage Act. And the documents released so far have made clear that Trump and others around him face potential legal exposure, including for possible obstruction of justice. (34,075 posts)Restricted information. Restrictions on nuclear information do not fall within the standard classification. Those restrictions are, instead, under the control of the Departments of Energy and Defense. The president is merely the tie-breaker when the DOD and DOE don't agree.

(2,807 posts)Do I think he's fucked? Do I think the DOJ has him sewn up? Do I think the FBI gave him rope enough to hang himself?

(2,807 posts)I mean it could be any number of them.
It could be the Mueller investigation, but I don't think so. Could be a federal investigation we don't yet know about. Could be...
I am intrigued.

... but I thought that lying to the investigators about the documents -- i.e. saying he/they had surrendered all of them when in fact he/they had not -- was itself worthy of an obstruction charge.

Bla bla bla.
I'll believe it when I see charges. So far, it's nothing more than the continuation of the blabber we have had to endure for 5 years, every one of which has failed to convict him of any crimes.
I'm telling you, this guy is slippery. He's not as dumb as he's being made out to be or he wouldn't have gotten away with so much shit already. Just look at all the stuff he's done, and no one has been able to find enough solid evidence to put this ass in jail. I'm not syaing he's necessarily smart, but he's damn good at being slimy and getting away with it.
And I'll gladly eat my hat if I'm proven wrong in the end. I'll even enjoy every bite because it would be worth it to see the look on his face following a guilty verdict.

(2,807 posts)This is just one of what, like 97 warrants on Donald.
Hasn't even moved the needle across this country.
Only political junkies even care.
Merick Garland hasn't even made him guilty yet and sentenced him to 40 years by now. Hell he don't even twitter.
Total nothing burger.

(2,807 posts)That is true.
And you maybe proven right. I mean the MAGAts don't seem concerned. They've been noticeably silent and hinged on this matter.
Again [/sarcasm]

Without a moral fiber in his body, its nuttin they can do about it and whose gonna stop me? You know, like fat Lorenzo says when giving Michael the gun (in The Godfather).

(2,807 posts)You can't arrest an American in America unless a grand jury, or rarely a judge, says you can.
You can't gather evidence of a crime without a warrant.
You can't get a warrant without affidavits, sworn witness statements, wiretaps, etc.
There's an established order to these things.
It appears, I mean it seems to me, that the DOJ/FBI has more experience in convicting criminals than folks on internet message boards.
And IMHO, the DOJ/FBI is marginally better at convicting criminals than are folks on internet message boards.
But that's only my humble opinion.

(73,559 posts)the documents unsealed today, you'll notice Trump is never mentioned. And as a DOJ representative said in the court hearing today, this is early in the criminal investigation. Hence, there is not going to be mention of Trump being named a "subject." Things don't work that way.
