New York TimesMs. Kaptur, who was first elected in 1982, criticized Mr. Biden in the ad over letting Ohio solar manufacturers be undercut by China and ended it with an attempt to cast her identity as independent from his.
Marcy Kaptur: She doesnt work for Joe Biden; she works for you, the ad concludes. Im Marcy Kaptur and I approve this message.
The remapping of districts in Ohio made Ms. Kapturs seat substantially more red this year by taking away parts of the Cleveland suburbs and exchanging them for a western swath of the state that reaches toward the Indiana border. The result turned the district from one that Mr. Biden easily won in 2020 to one that former President Donald J. Trump would have carried that year.

(8,333 posts)The only real exception in last 1000 votes they have cast is on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement Implementation Act. She sees it as exporting American jobs. Looks very electable to me, but in a redder new district designed to remove her from congress, I hope she picks the fights she needs to hold the seat.

Winning is all that matters. Everything else is just noise.

(58,663 posts)Not my rep, but Rep Schrier from the adjacent district. Her district looks to be a bit redder than last time after the last redistricting. She should be OK, but in her ads she points out how she "went against the Biden administration" on the gas tax relief idea. Pretty tame, actually, but if she holds onto some centrist votes with it, I don't really care. She was the first Dem to win that district since it was first formed many years ago, would be a shame if she lost, really.
She's really strong on women's rights and pro-choice and abortion rights. She should be, she's a doctor.

(1,603 posts)Kim Schrier is doing something similar in ads in the PNW, playing to the rubes in her very purple district. If it helps her hang onto her seat, which had never elected a Democrat until she (Schrier) won in 2018, then it's the smart play.
Edit: Just noticed Wounded Bear said same thing as me, apologies for missing that before I posted.

(430 posts)She is from Toledo. The last gerrymander she and Kucinich (Cleveland west side) were thrown into the same district, which hugged the shore of Lake Erie. That was done to eliminate Kucinich. A really ridiculously shaped district guaranteed Gym jacket off Jordan his seat. Tim Ryan is running for senate, and he has bad mouthed the Democratic Party to keep his seat, and now to win the senate.
Ohio has always been a Repuke Party advantage, but often Democrats won. The dirty tricks of the last 18 years has made it a southern state. The state capital is totally in the hands of Repukes, their financial contributors/owners, criminals, and wackos. But yet, Ohio may have two Democratic senators in DC in January.
