Abbott supporters crash one of Beto's town halls in central Texas.
It didn't go well.
Unless we be annoyed or judge these Abbott people, lets have a little sympathy; their candidate NEVER shows up to talk to them. -- @BetoORourke, Next Texas Governor

(82,849 posts)Big props to O'Rourke for going into these conservative enclaves and dealing directly with the people who live there. No filter. No Fox. No numbskulls to get in the way of the message. It bucks up the supporters who live in those areas who want a big change from Republican misgovernance. And it maybe-just-maybe peels off a couple of percentage points of Republican support. Do that in enough of these areas, and O'Rourke's next address will be the governor's mansion.

(70,127 posts)i went to quite a few obama rallies, some big some small, back in '08.
i've seen just how this works.
there's a wave coming, ppl. and you know the best part of that? it's gonna lift up all those little offices. also those county boards. secs of state. all those offices we now see we must hold.
in '18, dems took over 3 of chi's 6 collar counties. they padded their leads in '20.
and this is gonna happen in pa, in az, and lots of other places. anywhere there's a hot statewide race.
make sure you have a pretty bathing suit.

He backed of - but some are still going anyway.

(2,151 posts)Beto's charging up this year's biggest hill in TX politics. I suspect that once again the way he's campaigning is inspiring a lot of other Texans to charge up their own hills - school boards, town councils, mayors, judges, state representatives - with similar directness and energy
I like Beto's odds, once again, sometimes it's easy to overlook the inspiration factor as an intangible

Biden projects a lot of energy but he doesn't have that scrappy quality going on.

(10,011 posts)And who knows how much he cost taxpayers to call a special session of the legislature to try to outlaw LGBTQ kids from going to the bathroom of their identified gender. Fortunately, it failed.
The amount of money Paxton wasted on trying to prove fraud in the 2020 election was ridiculousmillions to find 11 cases where voters used incorrect addresses. Theyve also spent millions funding Christian crisis pregnancy centers that do nothing for womens healthcare because they arent physicians or nurses, just charlatans lying to vulnerable women. Meanwhile the maternal death Texas rivals that of some third-world countries.
If Beto does not win this Fall (or is cheated out of a win with Republicans finding excuses to throw out thousands of mail ballots), I may have to rethink staying in Texas. I dont think I can take four more years of Abbott.

(13,556 posts)Abbott has had huge infusions of oligarch money. Beto is doing pretty well with individual donor donations but sadly the battle is often who can spend the most on advertising.
