"It's such a dangerous thing for desperation to drive litigation." -- Neal Katyal
One of the best things about the DU community is that there are posts that really make one think. Even see things connected in a different way. Indeed, there are four OP/threads that I've read and participated in over the last few hours come to mind. Two from last night, and two from today.
PCIntern's "Okay ... you heard it first here" sets the tone. The current atmosphere in this country is a combination of uncertainty and anticipation. The discussion includes Yeats:
"Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity "

Tommymac delivered the next issue, which may sound tangential to PCIntern's at first. CREW has scored a major victory that I think important on several levels: https://www.democraticunderground.com/100217061849
The third comes from Nevilledog, about the "vindication of Bandy Lee." It is a reminder that Dr. Lee warned this country about "The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump." And that she paid a price for telling the truth. President Kennedy said that there was a reason why his 1956 book "Profiles in Courage" was a thin volume. No person put more on the line than Dr. Lee.
Just as she explained the core of Trump's sociopathic being, and what it could and would result in if not firmly addressed, we find ourselves in a similar place today ..... for exactly as Dr. Lee has noted, Trump becomes more dangerous under great pressure -- because he can inspire his cult to commit acts of great violence. January 6 was an obvious example of this. That can happen again, in a closely related manner, if not firmly addressed now.
The intensity of the combined criminal investigations that are threatening Trump appear to be a light at the end of the tunnel. But as the old joke goes, that light could be a train engine coming down the tracks. And it could be Jimi Hendrix's "Hear My Train a Comin'" or it might be Bob Dylan's "Slow Train Coming." Or something else coming as scheduled.
I think that we all agree that Trump is willfully stupid. In a real sense, he reminds me of Hitler, who knew a little about a lot of things, and although an expert on nothing except exploiting hatred. was able to manipulate masses to be violent. Perhaps the best measure of the danger is found in "milestogo's" important OP, "TFG is the 'messiah of America'":
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=17060768
Yet not all of those surrounding Trump are equally stupid. Yes, we've seen the John Eastman-types. But a particularly dangerous one is Kash Patel, who has served in Trump's administration, and has been laying the groundwork for the next outbreak of mass-violence. Start with his claim that many of the classified documents Trump had related to the FBI investigation of the Trump campaign's ties to Russia:
https://abcnews.go.com/US/weeks-mar-lago-search-trump-dod-official-vowed/story?id=88461618
Now, if the judge and DOJ release a redacted afficavit, and the pressure increases on Trump, can there be any doubt that he will tell his flock of externally-controlled, sheep-mentalitied flock that he had "proof" of "Deep State" corruption that the government does not want them to see? That it is a terrible plot against the American flag and the bible? That this is the Holy War they must win? That God sent him to lead them to the Promised Land?
These are the things I think about while reading the intense contributions of our community members. It's amazing that there are so many important issues being collected and discussed in one place.

And well thought through.
I expect the convulsions and madness, and yes limited violence, that we see of the Deplorables will continue worsening as we head down this rather longish corridor towards a final reckoning with Justice for one Donald J. Trump. It is they who are the 'turning and widening gyre, who's center cannot hold'. Soon however, there will be a threshold we will cross, one that we'll all recognize, them too. This will end with everlasting infamy on a man who so richly earned it.
I agree with you completely. It is Trump who will be remembered as the worst person in US history. And his cult will be scattered like a bag of shit dust in the wind.

(2,739 posts)The Nevilledog post led me to a link to your own interview of Dr. Bandy X. Lee back in 2019.
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100213009498
Quite a fascinating interview. Dr. Lees (and your) assessment are spot on. We are now in even greater great danger from Trump as DJT is under great pressure from so many investigation closing in on him. Inspiring more violence is certainly coming,
I hope the fact that many Dem leaders in the House and Senate had read Duty to Warn means they have been taking steps to prepare.

(73,559 posts)on that OP/thread, and I then posted the links to the second two. I think they are all important, and illustrate much of what we are seeing today and will continue to see.
Dr. Lee and others did meet with a number of members of the House and Senate back then. I think that the law-makers came away with a much better idea of Trump's being, and the threats he posed.

(73,559 posts)I'll be surprised if, within the next two weeks, we do not hear more lies about Trump wanting to "expose" the FBI (and intelligence community at large) for engaging in "dirty tricks" while investigating the 2016 campaign's ties with Russian military intelligence.
I'm also thinking about the timing of the search warrant. We may learn that Trump was already sharing intelligence with Russia, Saudi Arabia, or both.

(73,559 posts)I find hilarious is that Trump & his legal team absolutely do not want the affidavit made public. His legal team had attended the Thursday hearing, but not as participants. My impression is his lawyers were not pleased that Donald had sent Judicial Watch a letter saying he agreed with their position that it needed to be unsealed.
If and when the information in that affidavit becomes public, Trump's standing among republicans will plunge.

(73,559 posts)We know from studying nature that cats meow, dogs bark, fish swim, and Trump grifts.
While I'm neither better nor worse than others at predicting how things will unfold, I'm confident that the Trumpers will be claiming that Donald only had those documents in a noble effort to uncover the dreaded Deep State's persecution of him relating to the Russia investigation. That could make for a heck of a fund-raiser.
Hes always the victim

Doesnt matter if Fermis Paradox rules or if theres just too much time and space for intelligent species to cross paths. Like two bodies in space gravitationally attract, life will find other life.
The visitors to earth would immediately see how we treat one another. If those of us who have more than enough cant find it in ourselves to help others in need, an advanced alien race would know where they would stand.
Humanity needs apply the Power of the Good Mind. Wed transform the planet. Then the place will be inviting to Others.
ETA: Ours would be a world worthy of our Elders and Children.
