General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe Right-Wing is threatening violence because they believe Trump is guilty.
It is an angry reaction.
They are not so angry that he stole the documents, only that he got caught stealing them. The aura of invincibility has been deeply tarnished.
They understand the seriousness of the crimes. They know the penalty for stealing state secrets that might threaten the lives of our young people in the military. They know that if those documents were found in the basement of Barack Obama's home, they would be calling for his execution.
So they react in anger. It is the liberal's fault. It is the FBI's fault. It is Merrick Garland's fault. It is the Judge's fault. But they know that the real fault is with themselves. They put their faith in a con-artist and a grifter and they are getting their just reward.
Now, they threaten violence against everyone else. They want to kill all the FBI. They want to destroy the government, which has been so good to them. They have been deeply hurt and disappointed. The person they worshiped may be guilty of espionage? He may be a traitor to his country. It is not an easy reality with which to come to grips.
They are shattered.

(12,445 posts)I think they're true believers and they think Trump is being persecuted by mean nasty Democrats who all need to be rounded up in 2025.
The Liz Cheney's and others like her are far and few between.

(111,101 posts)But they can see the evidence as well as you. The documents were missing and they were found in Trump's basement at Mar-a-Lago. It's pretty incriminating evidence.

(12,445 posts)Seriously... the percentage of GOP'ers who follow the news close enough to know reality is tiny.

(47,124 posts)It is getting harder for them to ignore or negate information that conflicts with their beliefs about Trump.
The internal conflict gets bigger and they explode into violence.
They must destroy the sources of information that creates the discomfort.
They think if they can kill or bully people telling the truth into silence, they can get back to their comfort zone.

(47,124 posts)When obvious and irrefutable information came into the cult which negated the cult leader and belief systems, some of the cult members left the cult.
However most of them stayed and doubled and tripled down. They also changed the narrative, the bad news was really good news, etc. But they became more vehement in their crazy belief system.
So I think it is likely that the truth coming out more and more about Trump is going to gradually peel off some MAGA cult members.
But there will be some who remain and will get more crazy, dangerous and violent.
This research was done by the famous psychologist Leon Festinger in the 1950s. He was the social psychologist who developed the theory of cognitive dissonance, one of the most important and well known psychological theories of the 20th century.

(14,858 posts)The "news" they listen to, the videos they watch, the blogs they read, the e-mails they receive, the friends they talk with, and the preachers whose services they attend will all reinforce their belief that Trump has never done anything wrong, and is being persecuted.
It is a religion. They see everyone who opposes, criticizes, or contradicts Trump as blasphemers and heretics.

(9,670 posts)They know he's guilty. They just don't care.
Their intentions are not based on right vs. wrong. They are based on us vs. them. Anyone that stands in their way is "them", even if just yesterday they were one of "us".
This is the way a cult behaves. In this case, the cult has hitched their wagon to a bona fide fascist dictator wannabe. They're good with that...as long as we're not.

(81,304 posts)And it's all about acting out, at this point.
LOTS of frustration out there among that bunch. It's just not working out the way they want it to. And their "golden calf" proves he can be more like tarnished brass. That aura of invincibility - he's still desperately trying to reinforce it, but seems to me there are just too many hurdles now placed before him that he still has to jump over. And you can't jump as well when you're hobbled by as many complications as he has, now.
