When you can lie with sincerity...

You can get half of the country to believe the government was wrong and did an illegal search, when they got a search warrant to seize the top secret documents that you stole from the government.

You can get them to believe that it was all just a mistake in moving, because there was so much chaos and confusion at that time.

You are so sincere that you are willing to take them to court for violating your Fourth Amendment rights against illegal search and seizure.

Even when you commit crimes, you are the victim.

All you have to do is persuade enough of your supporters that they are after you for political reasons and you can build a wall around your crimes, so that they are never exposed.

With enough sincerity, you may be rewarded with another 4 years in the White House?

i think the bastard is just so transactional that the truth is whatever he wants it to be until he closes the sale.

It's a fake sincerity. It's almost as if he believes his own lies, moreso the more they are told.

It was always somebody else's fault. This time, it was the fault of the FBI and the government that he got caught. They should be held accountable.

..pretty much all his life, certainly since he began the run for President. With Trump, McConnell, McCarthy, Graham...whomever, it's always political expediency. You say whatever is necessary to justify or legitimize the set of circumstances at the given point in time.

The aforementioned acolytes harshly criticized Trump at different points in time when it seemed the politically correct thing to do. And truth be admitted, they hate Trump but saying it would not be politically expedient.

And the supporters don't necessarily care for Trump. They just like his mob boss mentality and were always there. If Trump isn't around, they'll go with DeSantas or whoever.

There was no way to defend him.

But, given a few days to program the media, they jumped back on the bandwagon.

This time, they have to defend someone who stole national secrets and refused to give them back. But they feel the lies are taking root and they are getting ready to defend them again.
