(9,708 posts)R's were a viable party but has since proven himself. He was a governor here years ago so he's familiar with the job.

(5,313 posts)Crist's chances are slim to none. He hasn't won a state-wide race as a dem and won't this time either. DeSantis has the biggest money war chest on record for a gov and the dems are running a retread who's time has past years ago.

(19,066 posts)If Ryan would have lost, today's headlines would have been about a Red Wave.
And we aren't going to hear much about what's really going on here. Dems are beating the polls by a lot. Dems are outperforming 2020 when they held the House and won the Senate. And Republicans are underperforming everywhere. For Sempolinksi to only win by 6.5 in a district Trump carried by over 13 points is remarkable too,
These are the Mid terms, it's usually in these early special elections that the big story is how the party out of power is outperforming their previous performance. It's usually a story of how the party in power can't motivate its voters.
I mean, you have the Kansas abortion vote beating the latest polls by 20+. You have Ryan beating the polls by 10 points last night, he was -8 going into election night. This is just absolutely remarkable and cannot be overstated.
And the winning issue is clear, it's abortion! Ryan ran on abortion as his primary issue. Kansas. The evidence is clear, if Dems run on abortion rights, they're going to crush all expectations in November.

(58,785 posts)I've long suspected RW subversion of the polling industry similar to RW subversion of the news media. It's too critical a field not to be corrupted, corrupt press requiring data that won't blast their themes, voters too interested in polling data.
Seeming extreme incompetence by pollsters has become normal in this century, virtually always slanted to report that Democratic candidates and policies are being rejected, including by Democrats. Every election now, head scratching afterward over how they could have been so wrong, then wash, rinse, repeat.
