It seems a subpoena from the DOJ would be in order?

3. Also, I think he was scared shitless after the assault on our Capitol and the attempted coup.

He was thinking about how he could protect himself from being arrested. He needed a way to defend himself from the "government" and the DOJ.

I think that may be when he decided to steal top secret information and hoard it for a rainy day.

He understand power. With those secret documents, he had power over the DOJ. They could not arrest him if he had possession of nuclear secrets and if he promised to release them to America's adversaries.

This may have been why he stole the documents? For self-defense.

briefings. His aids fixed simple forms for him because he doesn't read.

But he was able to go through those densely worded documents himself and choose the best ones?

This just stinks to high heaven.

hiding the documents was never about selling the documents, it was about displaying the documents and selling "admission"..levels of patronage, sponsorship..mega donors would fund Trump's glorified erection, most certainly on one of his properties, his brain-dead retiree donors would buy monthly/yearly subscriptions and Trump would lead tours, pointing to the Kim Jung Un love letter, the Sharpie weather map, the stolen Lincoln statue, and the boxes of classified documents...this was a Trump money-making grift..

Knowing what we know about Trump, that might be a hard sell.

he knew exactly what he was looking for..anything pertaining to Russia election interference, the Steel dossier, the Ukraine "perfect" phone call, anything that would implicate him directly in a crime...that evidence would be held in private, never to see the light of day, but the top secret documents, housed in his presidential library, built on one of his properties, would be (pardon the expression) a coup...Trump is not genius....he's a deranged sexual predator, a malignant narcissist, and lying psychopath, crude, cruel vengeful, without conscience or empathy..but he's also obvious..

12. I think Michael Cohen, his former "handler", may have his motives pegged?

He thinks Trump was going to use the documents to extort the DOJ. As soon as they put the cuffs on him, he would threaten to release the sensitive information to different people around the world.

He felt threatened by the pressure from the J6 investigation. It was the only way he could think of to defend himself.

Now, after the "raid" on his compound, he feels the heat closing in.

His primary ally in escaping everything in the past has been the court system. He is attempting to use the courts again, but it isn't working out too well for him, up to this point.

he needs those documents for his library...I also think Garland and the DOJ are prepared for any attempt to extort the DOJ..Trump has a habit of broadcasting his threats..if Trump and his enablers make any attempt to release the documents to the public, the August search and seizure will look like an Easter egg hunt compared to the hell the DOJ an FBI will bring down on the orange asshole's head...

15. I think there were multiple motives.

Trump is a narcissist and sociopath. Also immature and unsophisticated.

He stole a lot of documents, perhaps for different reasons.
Leverage, revenge, blackmail, extortion, leverage, bragging rights.

16. I think he had many motives, but yes one could have been trophies/souvenirs.

We know he is addicted to money, so yes that is one motive.

But he is also focused upon fame, adoration, respect, attention.

And he is a criminal, and they like trophies from their crimes.

So some of the material he stole could reflect these pathologies.

That is why every Trump supporter should be asked this question every time they appear in public defending him.
