First, of the media referring to Trump as President Trump. After President Obama left office, he was constantly referred to as former President Obama, or howzabout former president Clinton, or former President Carter. Note that when a Republican either finishes his term or is retired from his office (Nixon) it remains President. As Gerald Ford found out after his talks of a co-presidency with Reagan, theres only one president at a time, like it or not. I understand the use of the term as a term of respect in addressing or referring to that person, but the duplicity of the media coupled with the incessant use of and by Trump calling himself the 45th President of the United States, implying that there is no 46th president yet, is and has devalued the nature of the term of respect.
Second, the media has been talking about the coming red wave since the day President Biden was inaugurated. They have staked their reputations on it and their predictive powers. If you notice, so-called policy Wonks like Jonathan Lemire and Steve Kornacki incessantly preface every discussion about any election with the fact that the party in power in the White House does poorly in general in the midterm election. Every. Goddamn. Time. As though those people watching this Network have not heard it 15,000 times in the last 18 months. Oh, and did I mention that the party in power in the White House tends to have problems in the midterm elections? Im surprised that every fourth sentence is not do remember to flush the toilet after you use it. And of course, last nights elections did not go the way in some respects that these people predicted, so they have an almost cartoonish surprised look. How could this be? Dumbasses.
Third, and what does it take for these jerkoffs to realize that with Trump and his minions there is no limit to their perfidy, and no bottom to their amorality? Those of us old enough to remember the Gulf War certainly recalled the coverage we are in the reporters would make the statement preceding their report Saddam Hussein today said XYZ
. And then they would report what he said as though it was factual and would wait for it to be overturned by Obvious video footage, or the state department or the defense department explaining exactly why what he said was not true. When I was a kid and news reporters reported news only, the networks, particularly NBC with Chet Huntley and David Brinkley, would report a story which occurred say in the Soviet Union and then at the end of their report would state what Pravda or Tass had reported which was generally A minimization or denial of the storys existence. Now, we have not only Fox News doing that, but it seems our own media is complicit in attempting to minimize the absolute criminality of the previous administration. The way this is taught in high school classes is that you substitute a positive person in the narrative and say what would happen to him or her if he or she did that? For example, suppose President Obama took 400 sheets/folios of highly classified paper home? One can only imagine the repercussions both by the Republicans and by our media. This guy Trump lied 100,000 times at least, stole highly sensitive material, performed giveaways of secrets from the day he was inaugurated, worked out a deal with the Saudis so his son-in-law could collect $2 billion which Im certain will be funneled somehow to Senior, and untold crimes of which we as yet know nothing. It is revolting and some days I almost cant stop throwing up.

So they know others have seen it and its not as easy to dismiss or shrug off like it never even happened.
Maybe write a letter to the editor of your local paper about it.
Yes, thatll take a little extra work (looking up the addressees boss or bosses), but the impact will be far greater and harder to ignore.
The more eyes are on this, the greater, broader, and more powerful the impact.

He needs to be in prison, not glossed over by much of the media and politicians on the right. There is no place for a public enemy, or an enemy operative, like him and his minions. I fear for my children and grand children.

(6,254 posts)accountable. What does justice look like for an ape like TFG. I can see a plea to criminal charges related to the stealing of Top Secret docs with a prison term. That said, citing security concerns or some other BS, it will be some type of home confinement if that exists in the Federal system. He cannot walk on these offenses but I also cannot envision putting an extra-president in jail. Thats where he belongs but just dont see it actually happening. Imagine processing TFG for prison. He will he told to strip naked, bend over and cough. A revolting thought, I know.

I remember the Gulf War coverage, all that yapping about WMD's
Thats when I stopped watching TV. News and "reality" TV was bullcrapsickles. Mark Burnett ,Survivor was popular at the time, and then later foisted Donald Trump upon our nation. And we had a president who sat around watching TV something like 12 hours a day
Did they ever find them WMD's?

(1,654 posts)It's In Time Of War. And at the present time the Republicans, especially MAGAts, are waging war on Democracy, war on Truth, war on Democrats, war on education, war on the civility. I don't know how many recognize this but I'm pretty sure some feel this in their being without using the words. I have relatives living in deep red country that are trying to move out but because of financial considerations are for the present feeling trapped in enemy territory.
As an example of the war on Truth look at how this past "anniversary of Biden's horrible withdrawal from Afghanistan failure" has been treated in the media in just the past weeks. The failure was Trump's. Biden did a remarkable job in getting out what he did get out. He prioritized what he could. The media almost gleefully showed the chaos at the airport and deemed it a failure. The fact that we are out set Biden up for better dealing with Ukraine. If we were still mired in Afghanistan, we would never be able to have the robust support for Ukraine and Europe we do. To much of the rest of the world we are again a stable partner who can be counted on.

Psalm 109: 6-15
They say about me, Have an evil person work against him,
and let an accuser stand against him.
7 When he is judged, let him be found guilty,
and let even his prayers show his guilt.
8 Let his life be cut short,
and let another man replace him as leader.
9 Let his children become orphans
and his wife a widow.
10 Make his children wander around, begging for food.
Let them be forced out of the ruins in which they live.
11 Let the people to whom he owes money take everything he owns,
and let strangers steal everything he has worked for.
12 Let no one show him love
or have mercy on his orphaned children.
13 Let all his descendants die
and be forgotten by those who live after him.
14 Lord, remember how wicked his ancestors were,
and dont let the sins of his mother be wiped out.
15 Lord, always remember their sins.
Then make people forget about them completely.

(111,267 posts)at this point, especially, when his wretched behavior is being exposed every day. He no longer has the power to eject reporters by lifting their WH press passes, they don't have to walk on eggshells around that fucking narcissist traitor.
Second, the press are lazy fuckers. The pattern in this country has been to have Congress dominated by the opposition party since god was a lad, it ensures no party will be able to act like the Republicans have acted for decades. That might not be the case now. However, let them keep their fantasy going, it will help to GOTV.
Third, he's still great for ratings, so they'll breathlessly report on his reaction to the judicial system, if not on the crimes that provoked it. See: lazy fuckers.
I'll be glad when this is over, he either drops dead of sheer spite or is imprisoned for at least one crime. Only then will the press have to move on to more boring but no less important news.
I've been reading more and more offshore press to get the news. TFG doesn't dominate their media, although the bastard is there, too. You can tell by the unladylike language in this post that I'm sick and tired of this shit, too.

(31,828 posts)The thing that gets me about the pundits and their 'polling' and so-called expertise?
This midterm is different than all of the others.
1876 (Hayes v. Tildren) created a Constitutional Crisis as to 'who really won'. Talk of another Civil War . . .
1877 - would see the end of Reconstruction - in order to get Hayes the required electoral votes.
1878 - Change election with a third party (Greenback) taking seats from both the Democratic Party and the Republicans.
2020 - MF45 creates a Constitution Crisis in advance of the election (rigging, and all kinds of lies and nonsense)
2021 - Major coup attempt - Pentagon Involvement, Ongoing
2022 - Change election. Democratic Party Voters and Independents show up in order to stop the coup and the stripping of rights of the invidual.
This midterm looks like 1878 to me.
ETA - I could also argue we are in mini Gilded Age.

(33,349 posts)The theocracy being promoted elsewhere and within the radicalized Republican party is to rile up and ultimately control the peasants in order to keep electing the party that gives tax breaks to the rich, suppresses voters, and deregulates industry. An alternative reality must be presented in public education and media in order to gain and maintain control, because the majority of voters don't favor the agenda of the radicalized Republican party. The indoctrination and suppression will continue until submission occurs.
