ahead of time, it was really unacceptable behavior, and downright gobsmacking at a public school board meeting. How do these people behave in private?

Again and again I'm struck by how frequently people on the far right (and far left) show themselves to lack much of the normal equipment adults should have. Wish we could have our candidates examined for mental disabilities.

I am the far left and would never mock anyone, much less a child. Give me one example of a far left not having the "normal equipment ". AOC? Bernie? They have more compassion and empathy in their little pinkie finger than all the right wingers combined. Quit equivocating, especially without evidence to back your claim.

many psychologists have felt some chronic extremist traits should have a DSM diagnosis to open the way to treatment -- more than will say so publicly because of the extreme political flammability of that idea, of course. There really are cognitive issues.

If you take a thoughtful gander at attitudes and behaviors of some on the far left, though, I think you'll recognize many of the similarities psychologists do with extremists on the far right. They're a lot alike, albeit different in some ways, which is why right and left wing radical leaders, especially including those leading populist movements, try to woo followers from each other.

Btw, look for chronic dishonesty and self-delusion, extreme self righteousness and contempt for other views, and lack of normal ethical constraints in dealing with all who aren't "with" them. We have no trouble identifying it on the right. Including anti-democratic views and claims of stolen elections. Elections and majority rule do not work for extremists on either side. They're all always reform movements of course, existing mainstream-elected governments always depicted as irreparably corrupt,

"many psychologists have felt" slam - sounds misleading and manipulative.

RE: Your both sidism - It stinks, it's false. No. People on the far left are not inclined to mock people, especially people with disabilities. The far right takes that nazi view. My many years teaching children with special needs has made that apparent to me. My right wing father & brother made that apparent to me.

You're sadly wrong about people on the left. Maybe you should open your mind and heart to the fact that we progressive lefties, such as AOC and Bernie, care more about humans, animals and this planet than anyone on the conservative side of the spectrum. And further, probably more that a few in the Democratic party.

Either you are listening too much to corporate media or you have a bias against progressives. Check yourself before you compare us to the crazies that fill the republican party. We are heartfelt and sincere in our quest to make this world a better place.

And by extremist do you mean BLM or Antifa? You may see many as extremist, but for most of them I see righteous anger. And if you aren't angry over injustices maybe you are the one with the problem.

And still no evidence to back your claim. "Felt" is not evidence. Give me facts.

There is a place on the political spectrum where the extremist left is almost indistinguishable from the extremist right. Most commonly this extreme is identifiable by its sexism, racism, and authoritarianism. On the right wing it will be explicit, on the left implicit.

For example, the right wing extremists will let only a limited number of carefully vetted non-white right wing extremists into their club house. The "colorblind" left wing extremists will simply wonder why everyone in their clubhouse is white.

I'm a solid Democrat because my politics are practical. A politician who truly represented me (and, no, that's not Bernie Sanders...) would never get elected. There are plenty of people here on DU who are appalled and offended by some of my political opinions and thought experiments. Nevertheless I'm a solid supporter of the Democratic Party in terms of time, energy, and money. I've never voted for a Republican, I've never voted for a third party candidate to "send a message."

My goal is to see the Republican Party lose everything before they destroy us all. I want to see a Democratic super-majority in the U.S.A. similar to what we enjoy here in California.

If someone is talking about the fringes of the left wing I don't figure they're talking about me.

It's been a few years now, but while attending a high school sporting event, the student dinging the national anthem forgot the words right in the middle of the song. The crowd recognized what happened and picked up the lyrics until the student got back on track then continued to sing along just in case.
