I guess the drug smugglers do it. Don't they use private aurfields?

(14,972 posts)Whether the various parties involved are willing to take on the risk/cost of doing so (for example, somebody has got to fly the plane, they have to consider the consequences for themselves of doing so), and whether the fleeing is permanently successful, would be another matter entirely.

(38,317 posts)He'd been living in Alaska but decided to move back to California.
He refused to fly and Canada wouldn't let him in because of a cannabis conviction.
Yep, he kayaked all the way to California.
People do this in sailboats too.
It's not anything new. Thousands of years ago humans could be found nearly everywhere on earth but Antarctica. They walked or made boats.

(6,593 posts)The newscasts said it was a small plane rented in Canada. Can't remember exactly why, but in a very short time there were a few F-15s zooming around the area. (Wow, those suckers are LOUD!) Definitely not something we see or hear every day up here in the quiet northwoods.

(1,923 posts)Unless you are physically prevented from leaving, nothing can really stop you from fleeing if you have the means. Passports are only required for entry and foreign countries are free to waive that requirement if they choose to do so. And having money is makes that possibility much more likely.
