JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Voters have been casting ballots all day on Tuesday, but some voters are saying theyve had problems.
That includes one man who said his party affiliation was changed without his knowledge.
This morning I was the first one in there to vote actually. And when I go to vote they give me a ballot. There were only two things on the ballot so I asked the young lady, wheres the other candidates? She says may be your party affiliation. I said, well Im a Democrat. I looked at my voter registration card and it says NPA. I have no idea who changed it, when they changed it and all. Heres my old one that says Democrat, George Erwin said.
The Supervisor of Elections Office told News4JAX it is unusual but it can happen.
Its unclear what happened in this mans specific case, but in general, people can unknowingly change their party affiliation when they go to the DMV to renew their drivers license. They can be asked if they declare a party or NPA.

(15,943 posts)As long as this is corrected at the polls and the voter still gets to vote for the candidates of their choice then I guess that would be fixed right then and there.

(9,481 posts)Can you change your party affiliation at the polls? I would not put it past the Republicans targeting democratic voters who may vote for the "stronger" primary candidate by changing their party affiliation and trying to disqualify them from voting in the primary. This could then result in the "weaker" candidate winning.

(82,849 posts)In many states, and it sounds like Florida is one, you can vote in your party's primary only if you're registered with that party. This voter got the wind up when he received a primary ballot with two items on it, instead of all the Democratic races. It wouldn't matter in a general election, but it does for the primaries.
Keep your eyes peeled, folks. And tell your friends and neighbors to double- and triple-check your registration.

(3,411 posts)Republican groups South Florida tricked hundreds of elderly citizens by changing them from Democratic to Republican. So far seems nothing has happened to the perpetrators.
My thoughts are that this is a Republican plan to artificially boost their statewide numbers and maybe to call voter fraud if outcomes dont match their expectations.
