Dems just had a great night at the polls – experts are calling it a ‘significantly more democratic environment’

David Badash, The New Civil Rights Movement
August 24, 2022

Political pundits agree Democrats had a great night at the polls on Tuesday, but the real experts – not the TV pundits or social media influencers, but actual experts who study the numbers and the history down to the smallest details, are saying Democrats had a great night.

Here’s why

The Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade is nothing to celebrate. Women will die as a result. Many unwanted children will be born as a result. Families will grow poorer as a result. Women’s careers will suffer as a result. And many women have lost and will continue to lose the right to bodily autonomy.

But the Supreme Court turning a woman’s right to choose into a political issue has fired up women, and Democratic voters, and those who are deciding they can no longer vote for Republicans after the GOP’s 50-year push to take away the constitutional right to abortion succeeded.

As in any election, it’s always about enthusiasm.

Enthusiasm is why the party out of power traditionally sees a wave in the mid terms. It's normally tough to motivate voters who just won in 2020, Dobbs changed everything.

Outperforming Biden from 2020 is monumental. Biden in 2020 was enough to hold the House and win the Senate.

Thank you Clarence Thomas for tipping your hand about contraceptives and probably LGBTQ rights being in the SC crosshairs. Overturning Roe told everyone that this Court has no respect for settled law and they are prepared to overturn any law they do not like for any reason just because they have the power and no one can touch them.

Democrats all need to be asking voters “What is the next right this Court will take away as it strips personal freedom?”

It seems the Roe V Wade overturn is generating the needed enthusiasm to break the trend and possibly save the House.

The radicalized Republican party wants to radicalize public education and defund the federal government. They are also attacking the election process itself -- necessary to gaining permanent control.

Roe, Roe, Roe your vote
against theocracy!
Republicans revoke your rights
and kill democracy!
