Now it appears we are unlikely to see much if anything from the affidavit and for good reason. On Monday, Reinhart issued a ruling noting that one of the statutes for which I found probable cause prohibits obstructing an investigation. Also, as some of the media Intervenors have reported, there have been increased threats against FBI personnel since the search.
He therefore found that given the public notoriety and controversy about this search, it is likely that even witnesses who are not expressly named in the Affidavit would be quickly and broadly identified over social media and other communication channels, which could lead to them being harassed and intimidated. In other words, the MAGA campaign of incitement against law enforcement should weigh heavily against disclosure.
The sheer number of documents previously recovered and their sources (from the CIA, FBI and National Security Agency) raise the stakes considerably for Trump, undercutting his followers frivolous excuses and ludicrous accusations of an FBI plot to persecute him.
If the facts are as damning as they appear, Trumps risk of indictment is quite high. After the evidence is gathered, Attorney General Merrick Garland will need to decide whether to pursue an indictment from the grand jury. With a discrete set of facts that a jury can easily comprehend, powerful evidence of Trumps willfulness and the clear interest in protecting the nations secrets, Garland will have every incentive to proceed and surely not wait until the exponentially more complicated Jan. 6 investigation concludes.

(13,435 posts)I figure that the best we can hope for is a guilty plea that prohibits his future running for office, but hell serve no jail time.

(22,130 posts)rule of law, nothing about anyone else other than himself, nothing. He would torch the whole place if he had to.
Let the media showcase his thuggish reactions, his lashing out at the government as they tried to uphold the rule of law and protect our nations' highest secrets. Start the drumroll of why tRUMP stole these secrets, that he already tried to sell some of them already (IMHO). Start highlighting just how unfit he truely was and will be forever taking on an elected office again.

(2,674 posts)Nixon was pardoned; all his problems started with illegal campaign contributions.
What Trump did is 100 times worse than Nixon. He tried to overthrow our Democracy.
Not only should he go to jail, but all the fools who were helping him; the lawyers, the people who signed the fake ballot certifications, the Generals who held back protection on Jan. 6 - the whole rotten bunch!

(8,835 posts)that the Republican Politicians would like nothing better than to see him shackled and perp walked.
That way, they could blame the Dems for taking Trump out of the picture, and steal all his voters for a much better candidate like DeSatan.........

(11,519 posts)Out of 12 jurors there's surely going to be at least one MAGAT who would lie to get on the jury and then close their eyes, plug their ears, and vote to acquit 45* no matter what the facts say.
