REPORTER: Is this unfair to people who paid their student loans or chose not to take out loans?
BIDEN: Is it fair to people who, in fact, do not own multi-billion-dollar businesses if they see one of these guys getting all the tax breaks? Is that fair? What do you think?

PRESIDENT BIDEN: I will never apologize for helping working Americans & the middle class especially not to the same folks who voted for a $2 trillion tax cut that mainly benefited the wealthiest Americans and the biggest corporations. #CancelStudentDebt

(82,849 posts)Look! This guy ate beans for a decade but paid his loans off! What about him? Granted, the media haven't given a good goddam about inequities on the student loan program prior to right this minute. But now? The media will track every last one of them down to complain about the unfairness. (Those who don't want to complain, but are in favor of other not suffering like they did will have their footage wind up on the cutting room floor.) It's only fair that the unfairness continue!

(1,305 posts)I paid my student loans off, and then most of my kids. Far from thinking it unfair that some folks today are getting their loans forgiven, I think its unfair that every student loan isnt forgiven.
What I dont forgive is that student loans are at higher rates than other loans and that they cant be discharged in bankruptcy. Predatory lending-and the lawmakers that enable it-is unforgivable.

(19,066 posts)What he's doing with accruing interest with these new rule changes are massive too. Interest rate is obsolete for some borrowers now.
The new repayment options are total game changers though. That's where this does the most good.

(1,305 posts)Technical colleges educate diesel mechanics, air frame mechanics, hvac mechanics, medical equipment maintenance techs, etc. These are the blue collar jobs of today. They require substantial education beyond what you get on the job. Dont imagine that every college loan goes to a pointy headed liberal arts major.

educations, in New York, Hawaii, and California, were SUBSIDIZED with tax dollars in the 1960s. Tuition and books cost a ton less than they do now. A minimum wage job nights and weekends during the school terms went far to pay for necessities. My husband lived at home for much of his college life, but I chose to move back to where Id graduated from high school (thus I paid resident tuition) and every so often my mother would send me a $20 bill, to add to my 20 hour a week job.
Tell me who can do that now, or at any time in the last several decades?
Biden is doing the best he can with what hes got at the federal level. If you want to really give blue collar families a break, #1 take advantage of community colleges for the first two years, and #2 work like hell to get state legislatures to re-fund state colleges and universities i.e. state legislatures need to start valuing and subsidizing public education again.
Please dont blame Joe Biden for what others are failing to do. Like I said, hes doing the best he can at the federal level, and his best is pretty good.

(63,213 posts)My great-uncle worked in the mines 16 hours a day, six days a week, but only 12 hours on Sunday.
How is it fair to him that you should get to sit on your ass 128 hours of the week?

(6,423 posts)For this, give them NAMED in their honor new services buildings or whatever that will be paid for by all the taxes, let them have more named after their spouse, kids, mistresses, I do not care, just quit hoarding $ that has much better use, especially since it looks like all this malarkey on climate is going to level us all out, eventually.
Otherwise this country unfortunately will just continue down the HATE path of destruction?
We are aware of offshore accounts, shelters, etc. etc.. tricks of the wealthy, wow shut them down or seize it all, maybe?
Their level of greed needs punished, BIG FUCKING TIME!
