(4,552 posts)I guess the point could be made that fellatio is not something negative when practiced by hetro folks. It becomes negative when practiced by males. Because then you are a ---- sucker. That occurs because people are afraid of what goes on in their own minds. Good sex is 100% in your head.
Wow now that is a debate.

(1,639 posts). . . and respect your perspective. What the the writer was trying to convey was the idea of extreme ass-kissing and he (or she) was looking for a grittier way to express that.
Again, your point of view is important to consider and I care about your feelings. The question is how do we express certain kinds of strong emotion and contempt for people who are functioning as the toadies (toad lovers okay with that ?) and mouth pieces for the money-hoarding people in power who are profiting off of predatory policies?
Human nature being what it is, people use sexual and scatological references to express anger and scorn. They also use animal references (note, "toady" above), which many animal rights activists object to.

(15,809 posts)I totally understand human nature and I even believe that they didnt really have any bad intentions with it. It just annoys me. I think they couldve said something like these Republicans continue to support bad people and it has become a trend with them. When are we going to stop allowing this and calling out this behavior. We cannot be quiet about it we need to yelled from the rooftops every day. Just a thought.

(53,784 posts)as opposed to most college students who are financially illiterate and just want to get an education because they've been told all their lives that you need a college education to get a good job.
But no one told them about the crippling payments that would come with those loans after they get out of school.
And I'm one who paid off my loans.
halfulglas
(1,654 posts)I think they've gotten worse since the 90s. We ended up paying for our son's college because we couldn't understand how much he would be eligible for. We ended up glad we didn't end up with him saddled with debt. His choices, good or bad, were for what he thought he wanted, not needed. He's not in the field he majored in in college, but glad he got the education.
Remember the slick mortgage brokers back in the 70s when pushing a more expensive house because "you'll get raises every year so you can afford a little more?" But somehow you didn't always get that raise you were expecting. That's what the schtick about taking out student loans so you can get that "good job" and get raises, etc. is like. You come out to a flat market and you don't get the job you want, the one you got the education for, and settle for enough to pay your loans.
Those loans that students are pushed to take out more than they need can be tempting, but they are sometimes urged to use to "help" a family member in need or something other than education. This is predatory.

They fired them anyway & kept the money. Well, didn't really keep it, they then spent many billions on dividends and stock buybacks ($9 b for Delta alone).

They never paid a cent of it back, it was forgiven.
And she had the nerve to complain about forgiveness on a college loan.

(63,213 posts)All of the standard tropes: "personal responsibility;" "I paid mine/what do I get?" "you should pay the price for your own bad choices;" "should have gotten a better degree;" "I worked my way through college/why doesn't everybody?" and on and on.
It has always disappointed--but not surprised--me that Progressives would be so vindictive and petty on this subject, even recently.
My loans are paid off, and I would be delighted if others are able to escape the cruel burden that they were conned into accepting.
Glad to see some progress at long last.

(1,568 posts)But still took out small loans yearly. I am still in shock that it was so predatory. Financial aid folks would try to convince me to take the full amount offered. I could buy a car! Furnish an apartment! Take a great spring break trip!
I always declined but I was always pressured.
Thats why I support full loan forgiveness. If I had needed that money to live on, I cant imagine how bad my payments would be. And it was damn predatory for an 18-year-old kid.
Orrex
(63,213 posts)And a lot of kids are pressured into taking out loans even when they're 17. They can't sign the loan until they're 18, but the pressure campaign begins long before that.
The lender should be required to furnish an amortization schedule up front, so that prospective borrowers can say "this $10,000 loan will end up costing me $60,000, assuming I don't miss any payments, etc."
And many of the kids who need such assistance are poorly positioned to make long-term financial decisions, especially when their parents likewise lack the experience and knowledge to assess the impact of these choices. I know that I had no one to guide me in my decision; all I heard is that college will be worth it, and your degree in English will take you anywhere you want to go.
Even if the loans aren't going to be forgiven outright, they should be made subject to bankruptcy; at the very least, the interest and fees should be eligible for discharge through bankruptcy, just like any other legally procured loan.
Instead, we're demanding that children make an accurate prediction about what the job market will be in 10 years, when millionaire CEOs of multi-billion-dollar international corporations often can't predict accurately what the market will do in six months.

(1,096 posts)into a terrible job market. For a lot of years it was not a pretty scenario. We are now working on helping to pay the last one off. She will not be eligible for this loan forgiveness because her loans have been refinanced. I am still happy to see that something, however meager, is being about the student debt burden. It is a national disgrace.

Maybe this is the only thing Biden can do without Congress, but it does play into the hands of the creditors, who are the beneficiaries of this as much as the debtors.

(53,410 posts)They use the American work ethic as a weapon to justify their insane interest rates. Their aim is to keep us chained to paying them more and more which enriches them at our expense. Then when we cant do it anymore they use shame to squeeze more out of us. And if they cant hound us to pay they go after our families.
But they can be stopped sometimes.
