So maybe a housemate threw away my ACLU renewal

I have USPS informed delivery.

Yesterday it showed my ACLU renewal request as arriving on the 23rd.

Still not here today.

There are 3 other men that share this house.

This is a halfway house for men in recovery, in various situations.

Two clients here, I work here as staff, and an 83 year old who is also staff, but this is also sort of his retirement. (It's complicated.)

The 83 year old listens regularly to right wing hate radio, (WTAM Cleveland to be specific, he is a former minor league baseball player).

Most of the time, he is easy to get along with, has done a lot for me, but goes off on occasional political rants, parroting talking points and disinformation from WTAM.

This is a shame, he still has his wits, and was a college athlete and has a degree.

I have seen him throw mail away for people who have moved out of here he didn't like, saying "he doesn't need that", which I found disturbing.

It also made me suspect the onset of dementia.

He is an animal lover, to his credit. He once amassed a collection of about 30 porch cats, and was told by the head of the Catholic charity that runs this place to get rid of them.

He put them off for months, then finally they paid someone to pick up the cats (one of the cats bit the collector!), and paid someone else to clean and fumigate the basement that was left open for the cats (who were multiplying down there all winter.). The basement is now kept locked.

We are rural, on a dirt road.

Think of having a grandpa who is nice in every way, and whom you respect, but who has fallen for a bunch of right wing crap.

I suppose the solution is to get a p.o. box in town and try to have all my mail sent there,

Losing the ACLU letter isn't a big deal, as I renew online anyway.

It's the idea of the mail not being secure.

I already have the P.O. holding my packages, as it got back to me that he had gone to admins saying " I was "rich" now and getting lots of packages.

And finally, I have received mail for neighbors, so it could have been delivered elsewhere.

But n my gut I think he tossed it.

Thanks for letting me vent.

The American Civil Liberties Union.

They had their work cut out for them with dolt 45.

And now with a fake supreme court.

to do anything with someone else's mail. Taking, opening throwing away. Contact the USPS about this. Or if there's any chance you can get separate locked boxes for everyone there, that would be nice.

Separate boxes ain't gonna happen.

And making an issue would probably end with me losing my job, I like it here..

Gonna get a p.o. box, which "is" a locked separate box.

And, I'm dealing with a demented 83 year old, not a criminal.

I'll take the hit before unleashing the "justice" system on him.

If they disappeared him, I'd have to take care of his f'ing cat.

Just fill out a change of address form and your mail will be forwarded there. He wouldn't even need to know.

Now he helps people with drug and alcohol problems.

I have seen him give wise counsel to men whose souls were lost.

I'm not going to turn him over to the feds over a letter that may have been lost.

The mail I saw him toss were people who hadn't been here in decades, or were dead.

Sorry, I should have clarified that.

I appreciate your understanding my anger.

Informed delivery is hit-or-miss for me. There's a bunch of mail I get that I'm not informed about. Sometimes I get mail that I've been informed about a day or so later than I've been told in the notification emails the USPS sends me.

If it becomes a pattern, then I'll deal with it.

We once had a guy here who was schizophrenic.

He was a gentle soul, but 6'3 and 380 lbs.

He had conversations with his demons, and tried to drown them out with his beautiful singing voice.

I had a package delivered with tracking, a rare antique.

It never showed up.

I questioned him,, thinking for sure he had stolen it to sell for drugs.

Two days later, a neighbor brought it over.

I felt like shit.

I made amends with 2 of Pizza Huts largest, which were happily devoured, and a huge hug.

Hence my reluctance to jump the gun.

He looked and sounded much like this...

You never expected that beautiful voice to come out of that giant.

A few months ago it showed our bank statement being delivered on a Friday. It wasn’t. It was ultimately delivered the following Tuesday. There have been 3-4 other instances of mail which appeared in informed delivery not actually being delivered for a day or two. Or three.

So it may not be your housemate.

and ordered checks with my new address.

The DL was supposed to arrive on a Saturday, but I never got it. The checks were supposed to arrive on a Monday, but I never got them.

I live alone, so I think it was a postal worker. I did replace the DL quickly, but I had to change my checking account, which is a real pain in the butt.
