President Joe Bidens approval rating in the past month has skyrocketed, jumping six points after massive successes in getting his legislative agenda passed. At 44%, Bidens approval rating is now higher than the approval ratings of Donald Trump (41%), Barack Obama (43%), Bill Clinton (39%), Jimmy Carter (43%), and Ronald Reagan (41%) at this point in their presidencies.
The only Presidents who had higher job approval ratings at this point were George W. Bush (65%) and George H.W. Bush (74%), both of whom were engaged in prosecuting wars in the Middle East, and Richard Nixon (55%). Gerald Fords was 48% at this point in his presidency, but as an unelected president coming in after the Nixon resignation its a difficult comparison to weigh.
All the approval ratings above come via Gallups Presidential Job Approval Center and are based on the current poll number and time period for that poll. Gallup does not publish weekly presidential job numbers any more, so the Biden figure is for August 1-23, 2022. Other presidential numbers are for the polls closest to that date and week number (around 79-84 weeks in office.)
President Biden has every reason to celebrate the huge jump. In recent months he has become a historic president, battling an opposition party fresh off an attempted coup, with a cultlike leader facing possible criminal charges on a variety of potentially unlawful acts, an evenly-divided Senate, a House with only a modest majority, all at a time of nearly unprecedented crises domestic, international, and worldwide.

(3,056 posts)President Biden super power is love. You cannot fake that. You cannot buy that. You just are that. This along with smarts and the ability to stay in control of their emotions. I admire him and wish to be more like him. Hes the real deal and my man crush is too

in the first place.
It was easy to see that the conditions causing his unpopularity were temporary.
A lot of people at this forum are worrywarts, handwringers, and pessimists.

(2,117 posts)After all the negative press coverage and the premature grave digging, he's showing why over 80 million Americans voted for him. He was truly meant for this moment in history.

(2,957 posts)I'm not exactly feeling all the magic and prosperity. The stock market just keeps going down, hardly any orders at work because a bad stock market leads to few luxury purchases, no progress whatsoever on cannabis legalization, and a ridiculous student loan giveaway which is completely unfair to the people in my family who all actually paid their way through school without loans.
Who are the people doing well? Everyone I know is struggling.

(34,478 posts)struggle when I was in my 20s and early 30s. I had to defer buying a house because of them. Why are you begrudging this break for former students? It will help the economy. I've paid property taxes for school funding for decades, yet I don't have kids. Should I whine and demand a refund? When did we all get so selfish? Unbelievable.

(20,137 posts)I suppose when we banned poll taxes, that could have been called unfair to those all the people who had paid them previously in order to vote
or to those who never got to vote because they couldnt afford it.
Legalizing same-sex marriage is unfair to all the people who were never allowed to marry their partner.
Legalizing marijuana is unfair to all the people who spent time in prison for it.
Raising the minimum wage is unfair to those who had to struggle when it was lower.
Passing anti-discrimination laws is unfair to people who suffered due to discrimination.
etc.

(7,155 posts)College tuition for Millennials and Gen Z is also monumentally unfair. Attending costs exponentially more than it did for Boomers and old Gen Xers, who went to college when it was heavily subsidized by taxpayers. Until the 90s, it was possible to work your way through college and/or take out loans that you had a good chance of paying off in a reasonable amount of time.
