Beto has had a grueling schedule of personal appearances all over the state. Beto stays after each of these events for pictures and to answer questions. I am not surprised that this schedule caught up with Beto
Beto will be in my prayers for a quick recovery

Like with Fetterman, knock him out of a big chunk of the campaign and make people have qualms about voting for him.

(16,514 posts)Also, nowadays, docs run tests when they put someone on IV antibiotics. They may have started the drugs first as a precaution, but they would have tested to be sure it was a bacterial infection, because overuse of those drugs is such a major issue these days. They may have even identified the organism he is infected with and prescribed accordingly.
I subscribe to the law of parsimony (Occam's razor), which says that when there are alternative explanations of events, the simplest one is likely to be correct. Beto has been running around all over Texas, constantly being exposed to crowds of people, and likely not getting enough sleep or eating properly. Recent pics have shown him looking exhausted. Picking up some kind of infection along the way was almost inevitable, and he was likely not in the best shape to fight it effectively.
Besides, I'm not convinced that Putin would be all that interested or even aware of a state gubernatorial election, much less that he would attach enough significance to such an election to have someone poisoned.

(47,402 posts)Even the naive American public would start to get suspicious.
Killing his Russian enemies is one thing, killing Dem politicians is another.
Yes of course, we know that Beto was cultured to see if bacteria were present and what kind.
You are not going to get IV antibiotics at the drop of the hat.
I think they would do a culture first because you have to know the kind of bacteria present in order to administer the correct antibiotic. But I suppose they could have started with a broad spectrum one if Beto was really sick.
Americans have been very foolish and naive to not fully understand what Trump/Putin/GOP are capable of.
I assure you that Putin and his intelligence agency FSB are very familiar with the nuances of American politics.
So is the GOP who are allies with Putin, they don't even hide it anymore.
Parsimony dictates facing reality with all the facts, even ones we don't like.
But yes I agree, your scenario is #1 explanation, Putin/GOP tricks is #2.
