No, not out of fear of the MAGAloons "rioting in the streets".
I am bracing myself for what we are about to learn about the depths of Trump's treason, how widespread the conspiracy to overthrow our democracy was, and just how many Republicans were willing to sell-out our country in exchange for promises of personal enrichment and political power.
I believe that what has been uncovered so far is literally the "tip of the iceberg" - and I am bracing myself for the impact of the whole truth inevitably being revealed.
As the old Chinese curse goes, we live in interesting times - and those times are about to get a lot more mind-blowingly, earth-shatteringly, oh, my God, I had no idea interesting.
Buckle-up, America - we're in for a very bumpy ride.

(11,866 posts)I think it is really bad and when we get ALL of the story, even we will be shocked.
I do think there will be violence. We won't just be indicting TFG, we will have to clean house and that will mean disqualifying some congressmen and senators from holding office.
A bumpy ride indeed.

By electing Biden, we apparently got records of tRump's calls from the WH. I'm guessing stuff that wasn't acted on before (Democrats decided not to divert to big investigations of the private meetings, etc, when they happened) may become newly actionable as a result of what's coming out now. It was always a huge deal, of course.

(18,964 posts)I am mystified as to why he/she/they haven't been subpoenaed...in a secure location to testify as to the conversations in those meetings.
Question though:
Under who's jurisdiction would the questioning take place...Homeland Security? CIA? FBI?
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Information about details of investigations often doesn't come out for months, if then.
No idea, of course, about jurisdiction, no doubt would "depend." The CIA collects foreign intelligence, and I don't think its functions include subpoenaing witnesses.

(23,315 posts)I can vividly remember being beside myself with grief and fear the night of the 2016 election and so many people saying relax, how bad can it be? My spouse being one of them. Im not over it.

(58,785 posts)Don't remember if I helped it along. I Polls had been swinging wildly-bizarrely for a few weeks, and I was too stressed to sit out the returns. Spent the next several months waking in the middle of the night feeling sick and worried.
2016 is not over. So how could we be over it? I'm a lifelong optimist and still worried that we haven't yet learned "how bad can it be?"

(2,771 posts)visit to a favorite Mexican restaurant complete with celebratory margaritas. Id been a bit happy-weepy throughout he day thinking about my mom, who had voted for Shirley Chisholm in the California primary years earlier but who died before Hillarys run. I wished she could have seen thisI mistakenly thought. By 9:30 or 10 my brother called and asked if I was watching this sh**. I told him Id turned off the tv about 15 minutes before he called and was now drinking margaritas. His response? Good idea. We hung up. Im not sure what I dreamt that night, but I awakened depressed and hung over. I didnt spend the next 4 years hung over, but I sure was depressed. And horrified. And alarmed. And determined to do everything possible to resist.

Apparently Biden is going to give a national address Thursday on the threat to democracy and the soul of our nation. Sounds good as more people start realizing and maybe are finally getting in the mood to pay attention.

(15,041 posts)Nance, I see three possible outcomes of this "very bumpy ride." 1. The current organization called "The Republican Party" will be dismantled and replaced by the "Never Trumpers." 2. We will screw up the opportunity and the Republican criminal organization will end up owning the country. 3. It may turn into "A Hundred Year (political) War," with neither side ever gaining total control.
Then again, my crystal ball may be filled with total bullshit and some unforeseen outcome occurs. But whatever happens, "Buckle-up, America," is good advice.

(4,552 posts)Then we keep it in the news cycle every day 24-7.
The Democrats played the The Inflation Reduction Act like real pros. Do it again.
Beginning in October we scream:
Inflation and gas cost are dropping. We are getting real prescription relief. Republicans want to ban abortion and birth control. Democrats are doing something about climate change. Trump has been indicted for treason and republicans are corrupt. All day everyday.
What I am not hearing is what Democrats will do next if given the congress again. We need to hear that message.

There had to be a reason.
He's all about himself. So the reason relates to that.
I too strongly suspect it is a lot worse than mere obstruction.
Much like how he chose to obstruct rather than allowing folks to find out about his involvement with Russia in the 2016 election.

I hope that traitor wasn't able to get his hands on the information that could harm our country the worst if it fell into the wrong hands, hope that some of the intelligence pros gave him wrong info to feed to our enemies, hope there is punishment for traitor and his henchmen, hope we can contain the damage to our security and to our country. Just sickening.

(7,017 posts)total assault on our government by Republicans isn't covered up. For once we the people need to know the full extent of the crimes committed and by who. They need to name names and punishment needs to be swift . Removal from office if warranted needs to happen. If the Supreme Court gets involved citizens the Democratic party and other members of the court must force the MAGA side of the court to decide by rule of law not rule of trump.

(3,922 posts)You just spent six+ years of your life in fealty to a fraud - bad enough, but now you find out that you have been backing a traitor, a brought and paid for foreign asset whom has been working for sworn enemies of the USA. It's entirely possible that his nefarious deeds have resulted in the capture, torture, and death of American operatives. Now what, MAGA? Do you go all in and renounce the very country that you falsely claimed to love? Do you wave the flag of the Saudis, the Russians or the Chinese now?
A tragically sad chapter in American history is playing itself out. I suggest that the Magats find themselves a large rock to climb under and remove themselves from the mainstream society that they never should have had access to to begin with.

Post-trump, the US may never (will likely never) be the same due to all the broken norms in the daily and political spheres of life as we knew them.
We're experiencing the Paradox of Tolerance in real time.
One side strives to engage in honest debate, the other side desires to burn down the forum.
