Biden Becomes a Boon for Democrats

Charlie Crist was asked whether he wanted to campaign with Joe Biden... the response was that President Biden is a great man and a great president and that he couldn't wait for him to come here and that he both wanted and needed his help. Those Democrats who continue to distance themselves from President Biden do so at their own peril in my always humble opinion.

"You vote Democratic for president, then you might vote Democratic for senator or mayor.

But what do we call it when the person from whom the benefit flows is not actually on the ballot? What if the person isn’t even personally that popular?

Let’s call it phantom coattails.

That is what I believe is happening with President Biden at the moment. With a string of successes, he is building momentum and shaking off narratives of ineffectiveness."

I'm sick of this crapola line of reporting.

I read this line as referring to President Biden. Maybe that's not what it meant.

8. That is the problem with excerpts. The author noted that Biden is still underwater but went on

say that Biden is trending up (reached 44% according to 538) and it is the direction that is significant.

Biden is not on the ballot, he still has coattails.

Because, that's clearly operating, too. As well as Dobbs.

11. This opinion piece by Charles Blow is a mix of praise and rather nasty "backhanded compliments."

What if the person isn’t even personally that popular?

Progressives complained that the plan didn’t go far enough. As if Biden isn't a progressive.

But Biden did act. He did fulfill his campaign promise, to a degree. [Emphasis mine]

There was, however, a sense setting in that electing an elderly institutionalist meant that he wasn’t filled with enough fight, that he was guided by a sort of geriatric gentility. Gack!

Common ground on this point: Whether other Democrats want Biden’s help or not, I believe that they are going to need it. Running away from the leader of your party is never a good idea. It’s a particularly terrible idea when that leader is on a hot streak.

Blow mixes some praise with tired insults.

Suggesting Biden is "an elderly institutionalist meant that he wasn’t filled with enough fight, that he was guided by a sort of geriatric gentility" who has somewhat overcome this characterization (despite his lack of "popularity) is decidedly backhanded in my book.
