This is a perfect response to fight back against this parent, whom Im 99.99% sure has not read every single one of these books or the pages specifying why she wants them banned.
Its time for these people to push back and that is who we need on our boards.
Whos the one doing the censoring and cancel culture again? Who are the real snowflakes?

(111,267 posts)Running scared from a bunch of dimwits who assemble lists of books to ban from Fakebook is a recipe for a generation of pig ignorant children who have no interest in reading because the books that were left were all dull as cold dishwater.
However, do continue to let them screech about it. It's the best way to encourage their kids to read everything their parents hate.

(7,529 posts)So much right-wing-ism hinges on "just believe what I/FoxNews/random-rightwing-source says" and people are too lazy to do their own research and show their work.
Like Trump saying "They broke into my beautiful Mar-A-Lago resort" when they did no such thing.
Or Republicans putting Biden on blast for spending money they voted "no" for and in the next paragraph taking credit for the fruits of Federal budget increases in their state.

(9,998 posts)the effects of climate warming. I read this morning that Greenlands melting ice cap will add a foot to sea level rise. Looks like some new properties will now have oceanfront views. Its too bad Trump was unable to buy Greenland. He could have simply told them to stop melting their ice.

The character "Fender" (the red robot in the clip, voice by Robin Williams) changes gender several times during the movie. That's probably sufficient reason for the NatCs to ban that movie.

Is for kids to learn about the LGBTQ+ community in school, to know that they exist - not to push anything sexual on them, to tell them who they should be or who they should love, but that there are people who are different than them worthy of their respect.
Just like abortion, education is not black and white. The things children learn in school are not confined simply to a textbook. You learn stuff besides just having your face down to a book all day.

(16,412 posts)I'm with you, but the last thing these nincompoops want is for their kids to be taught that the LGBTQ+ community is worthy of anyone's respect. That's why they want all those books banned in the first place. They don't want their kids exposed to any ideas that might be in conflict with the hate and intolerance they're being taught at home.
Ugh, I can't believe I just typed all that. Depressing as it may be, though, I believe that IS how they think.

Im know Im not, and Im not sure anybody is actually anybody is actually asking anybody to be LGBTQ+, just to respect those who are like they would anybody else.
I dont have kids. If I did, Id want them informed and educated above all else.
Chances are, Im not qualified to do the job of these bigoted parents, whats the likelihood theyre qualified to do a teachers job?

Again, I agree with you about what kids should be taught. But the people who want to ban all these books want themselves and others like themselves to be able to indoctrinate their kids as they see fit, and they don't want the schools to expose their kids to any ideas they themselves disapprove of.
These people think being gay or trans--anything other than cis and het--is a choice, an erroneous and "sinful" choice. I think that they believe all children need to be protected from anything that might influence them to make the "wrong choice" about their own sexually or gender identity, and that includes books that portray being LGBTQ+ as anything other than wrong, deluded, and unhealthy.
OF COURSE they are wrong (dangerously and profoundly so). But they are convinced that they are in the right (even though they know lots of people disagree with them). They also elieve that removing all the books that portray or even imply anything semi-positive about LGBTQ+ people is right and necessary to prevent children from being "led astray."
Remember, they think the whole thing is a "choice," not something innate (like skin color). They believe that those who don't want to experience discrimination or persecution for being gay, bi, trans, etc., can simply "choose" not to be.
Yes, this is an extreme mindset, but these book burners ARE extremists of the worst kind. To do battle with them successfully, we need to understand exactly where they are coming from, as ugly a place as it is.
It sucks to be them. They are hateful, but they are also terrified of many, many things. That terror is what makes them so dangerous, even more so than just the hate alone.
