Hoping for an easy, quick answer. Trumps crimes were committed in D.C. why are are courts in

Florida handling the crimes.

When someone robs a bank in Kansas ( a federal crime) and gets caught in…say Florida, they are dragged back to Kansas to stand trial.

Trumps document theft occurred in Washington D.C. Just because he managed to get the stolen items out of D.C. shouldn’t allow him the privilege of judge shopping in Florida.

Now, obviously, I’m wrong. Still it seems odd.

So I guess FL would have jurisdiction too. There is a reason he chose to live in FL, instead of NY or NJ.

The crime of taking the documents in the first place occurred in D.C., but the crime of keeping them and not giving them back occurred in Florida. He's also a resident of Florida. He could be tried in either place, or, theoretically, both, though a trial would certainly be consolidated with all related crimes tried at once. And if in Florida, they probably wouldn't be tried before the federal judge who's hearing the special master issue, since she's not assigned to the division of the Southern District of FL where TFG lives, which is West Palm Beach.

The search warrant was served in Florida because that's where the evidence was. All current legal maneuvers are in relation to the search warrant and the evidence recovered, so jurisdiction remains in Florida.

The crime will have occurred in DC, so once charges are filed jurisdiction will be in DC.
