...he takes an oath to protect and defend our Constitution and to make sure all laws are faithfully executed.
Arguably, it is the most awesome responsibility in the world.
Those that would fail that responsibility, and break the laws of our Constitution, should be severely punished.
If they fail in their duty to protect our Constitution, they should never be rewarded or honored in their failure.
They should receive no pardons or recusals if they break the law.
They should receive the maximum penalty under law if they dishonor the American people by committing crimes against our nation.
They are not special if they criminalize the White House. They should be punished more harshly than an average citizen that might commit the same crime.

OMG if Obama had done anything like Trump did, the GOP would have flown him to Gitmo on the spot.

(111,098 posts)He does delight in getting away with his crimes. Also, I think that is why many of his supporters like him so much. They like people who stick it to the man and get away with it. They don't realize he is sticking it to them.

Of course the cult idiots do not understand he is using them and committing crimes against them too.

at a higher level than the public.
They have a duty and obligation to protect and serve the public, and do no harm.
But here in the US we have a situation where elected officials, who have taken an oath, and know better, are given a pass on their criminal activity. Even when there is ample evidence the public has been harmed greatly.

(894 posts)They should not be allowed to receive remuneration for presidential memoirs or speaking engagements...
They should not be given community service, particularly when their actions have caused irreparable
community/national harm...
They should be publically shamed and shunned...
They should be saddled with a gag order the rest of their natural days...
Worse case, they should have their US citizenship revoked and be forced out into the outer darkness...

(5,477 posts)The oath that the incoming President takes:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
There's his out - he has ZERO ability, so whatever he does or fails to do is OK.
We can call that his tRump card.

As far as the maximum sentence is concerned, you do know what the maximum sentence for treason is, dont you?
