General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI guess I'm just slow, but I have a question.
On my TV machine, I have heard "maybe" after "maybe" as to just WHY Trump stole government documents---many highly classified and dealing with national security.
"Maybe" he just wanted them as keepsakes or trophies.
"Maybe" he wanted to use them to---SNORT!---write his memoirs.
"Maybe" he wanted to use them to defend himself against liberal slanders.
"Maybe" he was just so stupid he really believed the ass-kissers who assured him that, "of course", those were his "personal papers".
But, ladies and gentlemen, the one "maybe" no one has had the sand to propose is "MAYBE HE REALLY IS A TRAITOROUS SONOFABITCH WHO INTENDED TO EXCHANGE THEM FOR BAZILLIONS OF DOLLARS, LUCRATIVE FAVORS OR, PERHAPS, SANCTUARY!"
Why is that "maybe" off limits?
Like I said, "maybe" I'm just slow.

(29,067 posts)They do continually include the possibility that he may be "monetizing" the documents. Given that the DOJ hasn't finished its investigation, it may be why they've not yet brought out "the big guns".

Last one is entirely possible to my mind, it will just take a lot more evidence to prove it.

(54,013 posts)The actions alone are treasonous. As a mentally immature egomaniac, he might've rationalized to himself (or to inquisitive staffers) that retaining the classified documents was for memoirs, but kept them with the possibility of future smears against opponents. He can pass for stupid even while having a subrational curiosity and impulsive egotism to holding onto his favorite classified docs like their a kid's teddy bear. Collectively these actions are still illegal and disloyal and any reasonable human would know that retaining them was wrong. He's a grown up, literally speaking, and needs to be prosecuted. I don't give a shit about his subconscience motivations. He broke the law and needs to pay.

But I wonder when that happens if the media will continue to cover for him, even as his blubbery, treasonous ass is carted off to jail.

(10,125 posts)It is something like this from the top post:
"Maybe" he wanted to use them to defend himself against liberal slanders.
but I'd word it this way:
"Maybe" he wanted to use them to protect himself against prosecution for obstruction or a crime or people finding out after the statute of limitations which could hurt his re-election chances.
For example there might be stuff on Trump-Russia in there. Or Trump-Ukraine extortion. Or Trump-Jan 6th. Or stuff we don't even know about.
There could be quite a debate about his impeachment docs because the government paid for his lawyers - who were more like White House council and therefore, not personal lawyers entitled to attorney-client privilege:

Trump is all about Trump. He did this for a reason that would benefit Trump.
The fact that he seemed so surprised by the search warrant and he's going crazy with his messaging all over the place means there is a good chance they got some evidence he really did not want them to see.

Reportedly said today on Truth Social that he should be reinstated as President immediately due to Hunter Biden's Laptop scandal being hidden before the election? [more likely asked for new election immediately, just as silly?]
Mirrors Stormy Daniels scandal without the TOAD stuff?
As if this is the first or last thing hidden before an election, what a sad desperate jackass about to be arrested?

(2,256 posts)..Trump had nefarious intentions in mind for the documents. After all, that is the primary concern and why the 'damage assessment' is taking place. He may have already shared some data with the wrong people.
No telling what he has told Putin. Has everyone forgotten Trump's dream of a Trump Tower in Moscow?

(3,859 posts)Personally, I think anything of significance in there has already been copied and sold. The Russians claim they've seen most of it and while they can be liars as much as he is, why would they say that if they didn't already have them? If they didn't, then they'd be quiet about it.

Trump is a grifter by nature, so I automatically assume he's looking for what he can get from whomever or by whatever means necessary. Somehow, some way, this is a con.
