Retrumplicans haven't made our judicial system a joke. It's always been a joke

It was NEVER designed to hold the rich and powerful to account. It was ALWAYS designed to punish the riff-raff and PROTECT the rich and powerful...ALWAYS!

If the FBI had found evidence of a potential crime that I committed, obtained a search warrant, executed a search and took files and papers from my home, does anyone think I could go to a judge in the court of my choice and get a "special master" appointed?

If I get a subpoena to appear before a Grand Jury next week, does anyone think I could go before a judge and say; "Hey, I've got a job interview next month, we need to delay my appearance until after that"? I mean, it may reflect poorly on me for this job I really want.

What if I am getting married in two months? Why, appearing before a Grand Jury might impact whether my fiancé wants to go through with the wedding.

Fuck! We are being told that just indicting Donnie Dipshit would lead to violence, but if we watch a man get the life choked out of him for 9 minutes, we better just shut up and take it.

This fucking bullshit is going to fucking destroy us all.

The justice system has NEVER been fair, but at least we believed that it might be.

Believing that justice may be fair is just about all that is standing between us and anarchy, and the Retrumplicans are choking that belief right out of us.

I do know this. I am going to run for something. Coroner, Dog-Catcher, PTA President, Parish Council, or HOA Event Planner. That way, if I ever get in trouble, I will have precedent to delay a subpoena.

Like I said; "what a fucking joke"!

Unless you have mega $$$ to hire high powered attorneys. A murder case will cost you north of 200K to defend. If you don't have that kind of cash, your most likely going to be convicted. Weather you did it or not. How many of us have that sitting around? A divorce with kids and/or property can, and often does cost upward of 50K. Violations in a restraining order or any other kind of order, well to enforce them, you have to hire an attorney and spend a pile of $$. What's the point of a law or court order if you have to pay through the nose to enforce it? In court, he who has the most $$$ wins. PERIOD!

The Alex Jones trial is a perfect example how those with resources and gall wipe their a--es with our "justice" system.

Justice turns slowly...but more slowly for some.

he got defaulted for his bad behavior, same thing would happen if he were poor, the judge prevented the jury from knowing of the bankruptcy. I watched quite a bit of the trial and I thought it was fair.

What the article is saying is he "will not pay" for the damage his lies caused to our society. The justice system is not prepared to deal with stuff like that and no poor person would have the kind of reach if he or she told lies. I don't want our "system" to criminalize lies. Too gestapo for me.

One set of parents got $45.2 million. If all 26 families had sued, that would be a just punishment money wise.

He got defaulted!!!! How does that show bias in his favor. That is the civil equivalent of the death penalty.

And we were doing it for the poor. So yes, delays look terrible but if you are sitting on death row, (rich or poor) you'd appreciate them. Hard to do it any other way.

Delay should be used to ensure everything was done on the up and up. But to suffer the harassment from Jones and his followers for a decade until something is even brought to trial, while the defendant is not cooperating with Jones then attempting to hide his assets seems particularly cruel.

It took almost 2 years for something to be done with TFG and he's not even charged yet (if ever). The woman who stole Pelosi's laptop still hasn't gone to court and she's allowed to make trips out of the house if granted permission. If she had walked into a Best Buy and stole a laptop she probably would have already been sentenced. Sorry, it's maddening the double standards that are out there right now.

I agree, if you have money, you can buy more time.

What all of us want, is for Alex Jones to call off the people who are harassing the parents. Just like we want Trump to say he lost and call of his flying monkeys. The law hasn't figured out how to fix that. Not sure it ever will.

If you go after the king, you better kill him.

And if you have documents that might relate to a privilege (lawyer/client, husband/wife) you could and would be granted a special master. It is fairly common in situations involving lawyers.

It is going to be difficult to get Trump. DOJ and FBI need to make sure they have all their ducks in a row.

It's always been rigged - but we were somewhat placated when infrequently one of the rich and connected faced
the music. The joke about Madoff is that the only reason he went to jail is he stole from MANY other rich people. There are even
affluent posters on this board (whatever their opinion on other matters) whose postings seem to imply we should accept the privilege of money power - or the status quo "legal process" because well, it just is. Easy position for them to hold when there's no real risk.

Justice delayed is justice denied. Don't give me that baloney about wheels of justice grinding exceedingly fine.
Many of our media talking heads (propagandists) are simply rich white men furthering their own agenda or that of their bosses who run the network. Andrea Mitchell who has state that she is retiring is married to Alan Greenspan. People forget that or don't even know who Greenspan is (13th Chair of the Federal Reserve). In congressional testimony on October 23, 2008, Greenspan finally conceded error on regulation. The New York Times wrote, "a humbled Mr. Greenspan admitted that he had put too much faith in the self-correcting power of free markets and had failed to anticipate the self-destructive power of wanton mortgage lending ... Mr. Greenspan refused to accept blame for the crisis but acknowledged that his belief in deregulation had been shaken."

What utter gaslighting bullshit.

Tucker Carlson comes from wealth. Snopes states that details of how much his stepmother Patricia Swanson (of Swanson's Foods) inherited have not been made public - but you can bet it was a shit ton. Even liberal oriented, Anderson Cooper has a net worth of 50- 200 million. He's a Vanderbilt BTW. Why are these super rich white people delivering the news????? Is it news or is it window dressing? How can a person with a net worth of 50 million or more even RELATE to common citizens??? It's like the Mexican telenovellas that feature primarily Castillian (non Mestizo) actors. I'm sorry for affluent DUers that might take offence - it's nothing personal. That said, I maintain that if you've got enough resources to buy your way out of serious legal trouble and not be totally financially devastated afterward, your priorities are very likely different than mine.

Basically, we have a monied elite that isn't interested in democracy or justice - just about retaining wealth. Less taxes - fuck the poor. The main job of the media personalities - with the exception of some very wonderful independent journalists - is to create the illusion of legitimate analytics (it's a con job and their positions are predictably in line with the monied elite) and put a gloss of reason and respectability on events and process who defy reason and deserve no respect - none.

BUT the judges are supposed to be the ones who make the difference.

AND AGAIN I am reminding myself to research whatever judges are up for election. Typically, they have been not on my radar, but they can impact people's lives.

https://www.supremecourt.gov/about/oath/oathsofoffice.aspx

“I, _________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will administer justice without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich, and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as _________ under the Constitution and laws of the United States. So help me God.”

There's nothing new about claiming "the system" is broken. In fact, it's always among the top excuses made by those who don't vote, including most of the 100 million who refused to vote in 2016 -- "voting's a waste of time, our system's a joke, the rich always win." Etc, etc.

One hundred million people. That doesn't even count those who wrote in their dog's name or spitefully voted for Jill Stein to refuse to vote to protect the workings of our judicial system. In other words,

"IT'S THE PEOPLE, STUPID!"

I stated it that way because some might benefit by posting it on the wall as a personal reminder to COMMIT TO EQUAL JUSTICE AND EQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE LAW. It's in the judicial system. It's just not in enough people.

How about GOVERNMENT OF, BY, AND FOR THE PEOPLE?

OF!

BY!

FOR!

We only get the "for," though, if we do the "of" and "by."
