I don't "do" religion. I don't like religion, any religion. I want no part of it.

As an old (71) retiree, might lose social security.

I would be tempted to sell our house and my husband and I could move. Unfortunately, the closest place would be Canada
and that is kind of expensive. Plus we'd have to pay health care and it's not like we would be contributing to the economy, both
of us being incredibly old.

the official requirements. We're not. It's no longer enough to show you can support yourself middle-class style, and in this scenario they'd have to say no to the flood of humanity at their southern border.

As for selling our homes, most people's biggest personal asset and assumed safety net, we need to wonder now what would happen to housing prices in the kind of failing society and economies that come with what we're talking about.

Add in mega losses from unmet climate challenges and disasters. Also perhaps from "privatization" of the Social Security fund into the pockets of a few. Increased death rates from ending/severely cutting back subsidization of healthcare. All creating fewer buyers.

Many homes in many areas would be effectively unsellable for lack of demand. It seems likely that it'd become common for their owners' kids to ask not to be left them in their wills.

I'm your age, and except for concern for family (a big one!), I'm thinking it might be the best age to stay and fight. Tired as the mere thought makes me, in any future we'll die but only die once.

It would mean they retake Congress and POTUS by January 20, 2025, especially if they seize the POTUS via some ultra dodgy means, like State legislatures overturning popular votes or, more unlikely by far, via an armed coup d'état.

The real danger of a coup d'état (this time with the US military possibly involved on the side of the christofash scum) would be in 2028/January 2029 (if Trump is POTUS again from Jan 20, 2025 onward but then refuses to leave office in January 20th, 2029) or in 2032/January 2033 if DeSantis is 'elected' in 2024 and re-elected in 2028. Will they leave power peacefully after 2 terms? The DeSantis issue could also come into play if he wins in 2024 and then in 2028/January 2029 he loses in 2028, bit claims it was a 'non legitimate' election, and then also refuses to leave power.
