on her fence told me I should come see her as soon as I can and told me she threw away her last trump sign this morning, I haven't seen her in about 2 years because I refused to come there with all her trump crap.
I didn't push her this morning I just said I'd come by in a few days, hopefully they are finally seeing what he really is.

I fear Val Demings and Charlie Crist will literally be ahead in the polls, then lose by the usual "close call" 1%, kinda how it's been for Dems since Gore lost.

(54,436 posts)They have been an increasing phenomenon in a huge number of elections in the USA, starting with 2000, the 2002 midterms, and, especially, Ohio 2004. Florida has had plenty of them. Demings and Crist can still win, but to win by 1%, their true margin of victory will have to be 3% or 4% or else the Republicans will just manipulate the numbers in their favoragain.

(8,965 posts)Could there have possibly been a worse candidate on the ballot? Well, DeSantis comes to mind!
DFW
(54,436 posts)Of course, for a party who claims their candidate won in a landslide when he got 8 million votes less than his opponent, I guess to them, DeSantis beating out his opponent by the usual Florida Republican margin of victory, means he won in their eyes by a 3 to 1 margin.
PatSeg
(47,583 posts)yet they have the nerve to accuse Democrats of "rigging elections". Once again accusing your adversary of what you do - Republican tactics and somehow people keep buying what they're selling. So now if Democrats accuse THEM of cheating, they'll say it is sour grapes and every election in the future will be contested by one or both sides. Not sure if democracy can survive that.

Not counting on it. I'm healthy now, so maybe.

(1,145 posts)At least in the case of deSantis you may get your wish. The home insurance market in Florida is melting down with companies fleeing the state. And it isn't because of anthropogenic climate change concerns, they are leaving because of rampant fraud. This disaster seems likely grow to the point that it will be covered nationwide, and for a long time.
Live long and prosper!

Everyone has always seemed to be waiting for some big awakening with Trump's followers, but that's rarely how cults work. It was always going to be a slow ebb of supporters leaving him. I think we're on the brink of Trump being electoral poison though now as no moderates will ever be able to vote for him again.

(8,759 posts)If you are reconnecting, why have so many restrictions. I dont get people who cannot speak with a relative if they are Republican. I have mostly Dem friends, but the girlfriend who will be there for me is a Republican. How hard is it to agree not to talk politics and enjoy each other.

(81,450 posts)I can understand the wish to avoid aggravation and conflict and possible arguments. Lifes too short.
Maybe youve had the good fortune to have met a Republican whos also in touch with her humanity first, and then the politics and the what-they-stand-for problems later. I wish they were all like that. But sometimes, as one ages, it could be that repeated efforts at patience and understanding and compassion and camaraderie just dont work with some people. And then, it might just be better and less potentially combustible to minimize contact.
Just my opinion, of course.

(3,922 posts)in my neck of the woods, most of tfg signs have disappeared.
There's one business, in Palm City FL - a sod dealer - who displayed tfg signs for well years, they're all gone now.
There's another neighborhood - a white low-income area - that also had the flags waving for years - no longer.
Maybe!

He wants to fund the police and train them. He's got the greatest job growth in recent memory, and has paid down the national debt. He also makes the fat corporations pay their share of taxes.

(3,878 posts)after the election are gone. Not sure if that means anything, but up until a few months ago, it was a regular feature in those counties.
My wife and I have some close friends who have also come to their senses recently. They have a son who we visited three years ago in Walter Reed where he was recovering after being injured in Afghanistan. Some of his buddies came home during the Biden airlift, and basically backed up his stories of the confusion and cross purposes going on there under Trump.
If the news media would just stop reporting every social media post he makes and every time he hits the head, and updated their "factoring" in the polling data, we'd find that his "base" or cult as I prefer to call them, is a lot smaller than it seems.

(972 posts)and IF she talks about feeling betrayed maybe ask her to think about what news she follows since the one major news outlet that supported him knew the truth but lied to her anyway and that contributed to her false belief.
I saw some study that had watchers of Fox News who agreed to watch something else for a period of time (? 2 months) and some of them really opened their eyes afterward about the BS Fox fed them.
I feel like if those people just beginning to see the light but who continue to watch Fox will just get sucked back down the rabbit hole sooner or later.
They havent connected the dots on the full level of the betrayal.

Now that he is finally allowed to tell me what he does all day (he retired and gave up his security clearance), my brother and I talk on the phone more often than we used to, and my sister was always in touch, even though she seems to be under the impression that Whatsapp and Facebook have replaced the spoken word altogether.
