When I was in 9th grade, naming our senators was on a Social Studies test - and the teacher gave us a "hint" on one of them.

In social studies we learned the counties of the state on a map we had to identify. We brought a newspaper to class to learn how to read em from the front page to sports. We learned about the states n had to identify them on a map. I remember my teacher making it fun to learn about “us” n the country we lived in. No Dems or r’s or assignments over our heads. No indoctrination. This is how they divide us n they’re starting too young.

Though several of us were assigned to read about other countries and give a report to the class. Politics never entered into it and I think of my 6th grade teacher as being pretty progressive - when it came to teaching. He was my first male teacher in elementary school and we were his first solo class - and he was very popular. Years later, I worked with a woman who had a son in that school and it turned out that my former teacher was his principal.
