After hearing President Biden's absolutely incredible speech last night, I was struck not only by the words spoken, but the words left unsaid.
Not one word was spoken about his remarkable achievements in terms of what he has accomplished, but in terms of what we can accomplish as his fellow citizens.
Not one word was spoken about personal grievances, being treated unfairly by the "fake news", or not being worshipped and adored as he deserves.
Not one word was uttered about being "everyone's favourite presdent", being smarter than anyone who challenges him, or being the only man who can fix everything that is wrong with the country.
At a time of unprecedented political turmoil and division, not one word stated was aimed at stoking unrest or encouraging violence - but instead called for tolerance and understanding.
After listening to Trump's speeches for years, it was especially refreshing to hear not a single word about ME! ME! ME!, witch-hunts, and toilets that require twelve flushes.

(6,729 posts)Negative coverage is pretty much anti-democracy. Biden is heading right into the maga hornets nest. The major networks wouldn't carry the most important presidential speech in a decade. Let's see what they say today. My optimism is stronger than it's been in years. Thank you Joe Biden.

(10,130 posts)the shift to the right at CNN
CNN used to provide real journalism.
So did ABC, NBC & CBS
They're a key reason why we are in this fight.
They've deviated away from good journalism.
These conspiracy theories and the nonsense from these people are getting way too much attention from them.
The media is very important to a democracy. The great arbiter.
A key part of the reason we are in this position, fighting for democracy, is because of the media failing in its role as arbiter.
It feels like we are before a very biased judge and the fix is in.
There is NO good excuse for not broadcasting that speech last night.
At the very least, the arbiter lets both side speak. We've heard too much from Trump and his lies. And they tune out the President giving the speech of his life - which many Americans will now never hear.
This is not good.

Seems clear to me that the C-suites of some news outlets (CNN comes to mind) are responding to the very real threat of a coup by positioning themselves so they're able to work with whoever is in the White House, no matter how they got there.

Yes. Understand that there have been meetings within the parent companies of CNN, MSNBC and others that are in essence: "in the event of full blown fascism here, what steps should we take now to ensure we can protect our profits?"
And ABS, CBS & NBC wouldn't broadcast Biden's speech.
We're in deep trouble.
