Keeping an Eye On Ukraine

This photo is a time exposure, taken one night around midnight, of the facility I worked at in Samsun, Turkey, while serving in the USAF. The year was between 1967 and 1968. Although the Turks in the area referred to our USAF Base as the "American Radar," those are not radar domes at all. The location was on the northern shore of the Black Sea on a hilltop just West of Samsun. To the north, across the water, was Ukraine.

What was I doing there? I can't say, but I was a Russian Linguist by training. That's not classified. Everything else is, though. The photo is not classified, since everyone in that city could see this up on the hill near the city.

That base existed only from 1959 to 1970. Nothing of that installation is still there.

So, I have an enduring interest in what is happening in Ukraine.

The deception is working so well that Russia claims to have destroyed more HIMARS than the U.S. has even sent to Ukraine.
