Besides offering a refuge from the limelight and progressivism, Florida was free and prosperous even amid a pandemic, making it a no-brainer place for Lara and her husband Eric to raise their two children.
Safe in DeSantisland, a majority of Floridians are proudly patriotic, especially the many Republican transplants who escaped blue state tyranny during Covid-19. Laras family doesnt have to worry as much about critical race theory in classroom curricula or obscene books in the childrens library. That environment suits her, she says. Theres also less of an invasive press stalking their every move.
Despite her beauty and accomplishments, Lara, and the other ladies that share her last name, are accustomed to being overlooked by lifestyle media and Fashion Inc. Just as Melania Trump was one of the only first ladies to be refused a cover in Vogue, while even Nancy Reagan and Laura Bush got their time in the sun, Lara was never interviewed by Vanity Fair, Elle, Marie Claire or any of the other fashion and lifestyle magazines, all of which claim to cater to all women but espouse a left wing agenda that doesnt represent half of them.

The Conservateurs mix is kind of like that Lara Trump feature, disaggregated: one part fashion advice, with an emphasis on the traditional (Conservative Clean-Girl Beauty). One part traditionalist cultural commentary (Pro-Life Is Pro-Woman). One part occasionally trollish service journalism (Weekending on the #BidenBudget). And one part hagiography about far-right celebs (How Christina Pushaw Handles the Haters).

(1,789 posts)...called Evie that started out online-only like Conservateur but now publishes as well. Evie basically mainstreams and waters down alt-right ideology: the society is full of "degeneracy", outlawing abortion will stop the gals from being sluts, we need to bring back the patriarchy, we need to go back to the '50s (maybe the 1350s, even!), obsession with radtrad Catholicism and Latin Mass zealotry, etc.
Conservateur looks very much like they plagiarized Evie.

Mel was actually on the cover once, when she married Donnie - probably because her wedding dress was so, um, tacky and expensive.

(47,226 posts)Oh I didn't realize Melania was on the cover of Vogue years ago.
I will have to go look for it, would love to see her wedding dress.
Hopefully it covered all her body parts.
Irish_Dem
(47,226 posts)Vogue chooses a photo for the cover with Melania's face obscured by her veil.
Doesn't even look like her, pre-cosmetic surgery and wearing no make up.
They don't show the entire dress, just partial picture of it.
The dress looks suitable for a wedding between Kitty, saloon and brothel owner, to Matt Dillon.

(25,982 posts)Could be someone crouched on that, threw it in the air, and they snapped a few times until they got the right shot. It's a mystery why they went to the trouble given it looks so odd.
The problem is, it's supposed to be a fashionable ball gown but it's hideous - and no one would actually be able to waltz in that thing. It would be a pain just to walk around in it, and I don't even want to think about the cleaning bill after dragging the train on the floor, likely repeatedly getting stepped on all night.
Maybe it's me being too hung up on the logistics, but I can't imagine wanting to wear a dress like that even if it did look smashing.

(10,143 posts)like Rafalca, the Romneys' dressage horse (whatever happened to her, BTW?) There's another photo of her on the site showing her leading a horse through a stable while wearing a white gown. As one does.
Irish_Dem
(47,226 posts)For those of us with no knowledge of dressage horses especially.
I had forgotten about Romney's horse.
Out to pasture like Romney I suppose.
The pictures of Lara and the horses are ridiculous.
Ladies to the Manor Born do not traipse around the stables in their designer ball gowns.
Katherine, Duchess of Cambridge, a future Queen of England, did a photo shoot for Vogue at her country home.
She was always dressed appropriately and did not swan around the pigsty dressed in an evening dress.
Lara's photos make her look ridiculous, shallow, vapid.
Very pretentious and flaunting her money.

(1,830 posts)I don't they know what a laughable parody their praise article actually is. If they had actually tried, this couldn't have been more laughably ridiculous. The posing is really amateurish, too - in that last photo there's pretty obviously somewhat standing on one of the chairs behind that monster gown holding it up - you can tell by how the wrinkles fall. Good grief. Also, all of that frou frou makes her look skeletal rather than probably naturally just thin.
This is actually ::chef's kiss::

(47,226 posts)Writing style is immature, like it was written for a teen romance audience.
Also puts Lara in a very bad light, shallow, pretentious, vulgar, etc.
The author must hate Lara.
The photos are all showing the props more than Lara.
All we see are fabric and horses.
The captions on some of the photos are hilarious.
"Lara wearing a ball gown on top of a warmblood." Oh my.
Traipsing around the stables in evening dresses. What?
The dress designer, I don't even know what to say about him.
The purple ball gown is awful.
None of the outfits make her look good.

(12,436 posts)If this is supposed to be a fashion shoot, these types of magazines usually say "who you're wearing", not just "what you're wearing", like: "Lara at Mar-a-Lago wearing a magenta iridescent taffeta ball gown by Enrico Bucatini" or some such.

(50,562 posts)1. Lara Trump isnt the most attractive woman out there. Its not just that she married into the Sixth Family of the New York Syndicate
she isnt very pretty.
2. Even so, whoever did her makeup needs to go back to school.
2a. And what is up with that picture of her getting hair and makeup services? At least Vogue waits until youre completely ready before they start taking photos.
3. The magenta iridescent taffeta ball gown looks like someone went to a drag queen fabric shop in the Castro district of San Francisco, bought an entire bolt of purple cloth and wrapped it around her
without cutting any off, because they plan to return it if they can get the makeup stains out of it.
4. No avid rider would be within fifty feet of a horse in that outfit.
5. The author of this piece wins two awards. One is the Syrup of Ipecac Award, given to the person who most makes you want to projectile vomit. The award is an unattractive certificate printed on a paper towel because toilet paper doesnt come in sheets that big. The other is the Hannover Fiste Memorial Award, given in honor of the first defense witness in the landmark case Federation v Sternn, in which he closed out his testimony by screaming, Hangins too good for him. Burnins too good for him! He should be torn into little bitsy pieces and buried alive! So
if youre the worst person in the world, youre in the running. The trophy is a cinder block. The recipient is to drop it on his or her bare foot, preferably from above their head. Donald Trump has been deemed permanently ineligible on grounds he built three buildings with the ones he already has.

(14,939 posts)The Age of the Superyacht
Excerpt
The imperative is not usually length for lengths sake (though the longtime owner told me that at times there is an aspect of phallic sizing). L.O.A. is a byword for grandeur. In most cases, pleasure yachts are permitted to carry no more than twelve passengers, a rule set by the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, which was conceived after the sinking of the Titanic. But those limits do not apply to crew. So, you might have anything between twelve and fifty crew looking after those twelve guests, Edmiston, the broker, said. Its a level of service you cannot really contemplate until youve been fortunate enough to experience it.
