Weissmann asked a Democratic Senator why the Senate and House intelligence committees don't subpoena Trump before their committees to ask him why he stole the classified documents and what he planned to do with them?
The answer that Weissmann got dodged the question, the answer was that Congressional Magats won't go along.

(47,177 posts)call them hypocrites. Excellent piece. I think it was written by digby? But its about how their intent is to be unfair, treat people unequally etc. And so calling them hypocrites has no impact.

The importance of controlling the narrative is never enough.

(21,379 posts)I hope the Democratic Party strategy to get Mastriano the nomination because he will lose to Shapiro works because if it doesn't my vote in 2024 for president won't count.

(22,156 posts)lawyers this question. I too, as an American, want to know exactly what this thug was doing, in his personal home, w/ the Nation's top secrets? It certainly wasn't to protect them or the likes. I strongly suspect that he was looking to monetize the secrets for profits, his profits.
Traitor.
No more coddling, throw him in jail until he fesses up to where the missing secrets are, or whom he sold them to. This is our national security, it needs answers. Not a political slogan.

(13,429 posts)I can understand the part about not wanting to interfere with a current DoJ investigation; but minority Republicans have no voice in the subpoena process of the current House. Are there special rules at play here?

(10,129 posts)Maybe I'm stupid.
I didn't realize the Congressional Magats controlled the House (or Senate).
Certainly not yet.
Trump won't show up and then he can answer to ignoring their subpoena like Bannon
It flushes him out: "What are you afraid of, Donny?"

(21,379 posts)Are not the intelligence committees supposed to investigate an assault on our intelligence agencies? If I think it is a good idea I am accused of attacking Democrats. IMO calling Trump to testify before intelligence committees is not political, and it doesn't harm DOJ's investigations.
Jarqui
(10,129 posts)counterparts would get access to information on the case and pass it back to Trump (even though they're not supposed to) - which could compromise what DoJ & the FBI are trying to do.

(111,107 posts)I was going to post the same question. I thought the Senator weaseled out of answering the question. I thought it was a very good question. Why wouldn't the Intelligence Committee call him before the Committee to answer questions, just as they would any other civilian that is being accused of such crimes against our country?
They should put him under oath and ask their questions. If he wishes to take the Fifth, that is his prerogative.
