… that the sounds of cheering prisoners after Johnny sings the line
“I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die” was edited into the actual dead
silence following the line, by direction of the (CBS Records?) producer.

The cheers were actually caused by Mr. Cash’s call out to one of the
convicts present, who’d written the lyrics to a song he was about to perform.
