Execute others for fake crimes with or without the formality of pretend trials. Be too feared to be crossed. That's why these authoritarian types elevated him to power -- they saw in him someone who would do it for them. Most are far too dishonest and lacking in self awareness to admit it, much less see themselves for what they've become.

Reading about the authoritarian mind is fascinating. And scary. Well before tRump, researcher Bob Altemeyer reported that many could be quickly roused by a bad leader to kill their neighbors.

They can also be loving parents and caring neighbors, and tend to keep their cars washed and lawns mowed, so everyone, they most of all, knows they're good people.

It's the dangerous dis-order and burdens of too much freedom and individual responsibilities under democracy that authoritarians have a problem with. Their lawlessness will last only as long as it takes to replace the liberalism that's destroying society with their leaders. And they will obey the leader's eventual edict to turn in their guns. It's understandable that we're confused by their strong (fanatic) support for lawlessness by tRump and sundry others. But to them, upholding whatever their authorities do IS upholding law and order.

It's also obedience to authority.
