(2,000 posts)Is what helps drive the GOP narrative that the docs were "classified", but not really classified or were somehow not actually sensitive anymore. If he had lists of "assets" or nuclear data on foreign countries, could they justify not taking him into custody?

(14,800 posts)I love the thought of him being naked in front of female investigators laughing at him, being waterboarded and humiliated until he dumps what pretends to be his mind.
But we can't do that. Even though at the moment he qualifies as the countries biggest enemy individual, because we should be better than that.
But letting him fly around the country whipping up hate? There has to be a middle ground.

Arrest Trump? Mirandize him? Subpoena him? Because Kirschner speculates that Trump has all the information to incriminate himself in his head?
And then what? What if Trump doesn't feel like incriminating himself? Watch Democrats lose both the House and the Senate in November for nothing? Ok, I shouldn't say for nothing: the odds are high that this course of action will undermine any claims of non-partisanship on the part of DOJ, and will discredit Garland personally.

(21,378 posts)won't just fire up Trump's base, it will fire up our base.
Recent history; Trump was impeached and he got a record turnout of voters, but President Biden got a larger record turnout of voters.
I do not agree with people who say that we will lose Congress if we go after Trump, I believe the opposite.

(41 posts)But this situation has me worried worse than anything before.
As I think about this, it seems probable it is already known what is missing and who helped Trump. There must have been a "check-out" and "check-in" procedure identifying who else was in on this caper, and what documents have not been returned. There should be digital backups of everything, so the details in the documents are still in gov. hands.
I think that intelligence departments/officers are likely already taking proactive steps to mitigate the damages, regardless of who Trump shared the info with. But it is very troubling to speculate what Trump could have done with that info.
