“The names of hundreds of U.S. law enforcement officers, elected officials and military members appear on the leaked membership rolls of a far-right extremist group that’s accused of playing a key role in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol,” the AP AP reports.

“The Anti-Defamation League Center on Extremism pored over more than 38,000 names on leaked Oath Keepers membership lists and identified more than 370 people it believes currently work in law enforcement agencies — including as police chiefs and sheriffs — and more than 100 people who are currently members of the military.”

“It also identified more than 80 people who were running for or served in public office as of early August.”

Incorporated in 2009 many joined as the OK's at that time weren't a militia.

When they caught my attention during Katrina I became interested in learning more. Found many people who I work with and was introduced to others who talked with me.

All of these individuals viewed the OK's as group willing to help the police, national guard and local officials during national disasters.

Every single person I personally know have left and disavow the group. In the beginning the OK's attracted current and former members of the military, police and coastguard. They are patriots wanting to use their skills to help. Not right wing nutjobs although they do tend to be republican.

Every single one has left, and disavowed this organization as they saw it morph from being helpful to become a gathering of people they didnt want to be associated with.

You think it was a coincidence they formed in 2008-2009? Gee, what happened to trigger a group of angry white men in 2008-2009? They have ALWAYS been exactly what they are right now.

14th Amendment, Section 3.:

No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

You seem to miss the point I made that my posted observation was based on conversations with those who joined and than left for stated reasons.

I made a mistake in identifying them as tending to be Republicans. I should have written tends to be conservative as many recognize the dangers of the current republican party.
