"SNIP......
During Pennsylvanias Senate primary, Black Democrats worried that the GOP would target voters with ads about the time Democrat John Fetterman pulled a gun on a Black jogger he wrongly suspected of a crime, NBC News reports.
Now its on the air.
A political committee backing Fettermans opponent in the general election, Republican Mehmet Oz, is launching a 30-second TV ad about the incident that started airing Tuesday on networks that have solid African American viewership, such as Black Entertainment Television, the Oprah Winfrey Network, MSNBC and ESPN.
Playbook: Notably missing from the ad: The man himself, Chris Miyares, is now a Fetterman supporter.

(2,598 posts)This ad has one purpose. To cause a small, but significant number of African-American voters to skip voting for a candidate for Senator even if they vote for candidates for other offices. If the election is close, a significant number of undervotes can swing the result. Just look what happened in Florida four years ago in the US Senate race.

Maybe also point out, gee, this from the party that also created and non-stop broadcast the Willie Horton ad. Does anyone really believe they (Oz and the Republican Party of white nationalist supremacists) are concerned about a white man pulling a gun on an African American?

Republicans have nothing to offer the USA except hatred, violence, lies, stealing and cheating, ugly conspiracies and fake Christianity.

(10,828 posts)With Oz flailing around in the polls, this incident was bound to come up. How this helps anyone in the Republican Party is highly questionable bc the GOP favors guns in all situations. The Oz campaign may be hoping they can peel off a number of AA voters. But the truth is this information and the details were broadcast high and low during the primary.
Didn't hurt John Fetterman then and it won't dampen the enthusiasm now. I'm sure Fetterman's campaign will push back. He did a very effective interview shortly after the incident providing context to what happened that day. That by itself should reassure any doubters in addition to the outreach and hands-on work John Fetterman has done within minority communities.
Oz is in trouble and he knows it. As I predicted, it's going to get plenty ugly.

(68,576 posts)assault among other crimes-still there. Fetterman heard a gunshot and called the cops...went out with a gun. He didn't harm anyone. But this guy was a bad guy who interestingly enough endorsed Fetterman from Prison.

(5,104 posts)Highlighting that as "justification" for the stop would backfire in a huge way.
What Fetterman actually did, running towards gunfire in an effort to protect the citizens of his African American majority city where shooting had been rampant is a compelling story, and one Fetterman should lean into IMO.
He put his life on the line. That's heroism. Not something to apologize for.
Well-crafted ads like, "Which way would Oz run?" would be the final nail in the campaign of the quack doctor.
