The documents Trump was not supposed to have should be obvious- they are the ones marked "secret" that the National Archive wanted back, right?
Why can't he be charged for possessing and storing the secret documents? Isn't that the crime? Who cares if the idiot had other stuff mixed in with the secret documents?
Why is it not a matter of quickly separating out the stuff he can be charged for and indicting his ass?
I am so sick of our democracy being slowly destroyed by technicalities and legal slights of hand.

(182,817 posts)Unless this Special Master contorts themself and comes up with an excuse/reason for every single document. If one ONE isnt explained away thats one charge of theft. Thats enough.

(5,407 posts)if EVERY document is not illegal trump will declare "total vindication," a cry that will echo through the media until the first tuesday in november.
the special master will be corrupt and/or corruptible (why else ask for one?), and, at the very least, will help trump run out the clock.

(14,154 posts)... the United States Government. They are a historic record of how decisions were made and day to day happenings. A detailed record is kept by the archive office so people can review these papers and records either presently or during a future time.
tRump does not single handedly own the history of our country,.. this history is the property of all Americans. United States history is not to be seized and monetized to the profit of a select few individuals. Again these historical documents are the sole property of the people of America not one person.
This is not a monarchy nor are these records, documents, or paperwork part and parcel of royal files or records to be stored at the royal castles or royal beach mansions - accessible to only the king and his royal court.
These historical documents were pilfered, plundered, and stolen from the United States Government. The thief should be prosecuted for having done so - in direct violation of the law.
tRump was told again and again about the Presidential Papers Preservation Act. He was warned again and again that ALL records and ALL paperwork from his administration were to be retained and forwarded to the US Archive Office for permanent storage and keeping for access by and the benefit of -】 the American people.
He chose go flagrantly ignore and disregard this law. He proceeded to crumple and tear them up. Some he even attempted to flush down the White House toilets. Other documents were burnt and destroyed in the fireplaces of the White House. Still others were packed up, removed from the White House, then stored and retained at his beach mansion down in Florida. Along with this illegal plundering of presidential documents were top top secret files that should have been retained in only high security storage facilities.

The Presidential Records Act (PRA) of 1978, 44 U.S.C. §§ 22012209,[1] is an Act of the United States Congress governing the official records of Presidents and Vice Presidents created or received after January 20, 1981, and mandating the preservation of all presidential records.
Enacted November 4, 1978,[2] the PRA changed the legal ownership of the President's official records from private to public, and established a new statutory structure under which Presidents must manage their records. The PRA was amended in 2014, to include the prohibition of sending electronic records through non-official accounts unless an official account is copied on the transmission, or a copy is forwarded to an official account shortly after creation.[3]

(50,557 posts)This is what I think is happening.
Trump, unlike all other presidents who were in business before election, never really gave up control of his businesses while he was in office. Hence, it would be logical hed have had business records in the White House.
He is trying to sell this search as they are intruding on my rights as a private citizen and a businessman and hoping you wont notice there were documents confiscated that are so classified they had to borrow a neuralizer from the Men in Black to use on the people conducting the search.
This special master, whoever it may be, will not see the classified information. Even if they get the CIA Director to be the Special Master he wont see it all
because the DCI is not read on for some of what he had. When they haul him in for holding the classified-beyond-comprehension material, try him for it and send him to the electric chair for it, the hard right will be all Joe Biden murdered President Trump over his business records, and if they can do that to him they will do that to you. No, Alina, they executed him for trying to destroy the United States for personal gain and they wont do that to you because you didnt try destroying the nation.
