fight to prevent early voting are a disgrace on our democracy, and need to be incorporated into the voting rights act

(223 posts)So if they didn't have early voting, how would they possibly get all eligible voters through the line? It seems like they fundamentally need more polling places! Or more voting machines. It's a fairly easy math problem. It is almost like malpractice.
I feel very fortunate I have never had a longer than a 10 minute line. Ever. Ive lived in NY , Md, and VA. This is just wrong. On so many levels.
One major change HAS to be a non-partison officials.

(251 posts)Like in my state. We don't really have 'early' voting, it's called absentee voting and you can do it by mail or in person. If you choose to do it in person you obviously wouldn't go to your normal polling place you would go to a special 'absentee' voting place. In my county it is the county election board office where they have just a few machines set up. And you have to sign a statement saying you will be unable to vote on election day.
I'm guessing all of the normal polling places in states with early voting are not open for early voting on the premise that most people will vote at their assigned polling place on election day. Unfortunately you can't always predict how many people will show up.
I would love to see national standards in place and co-election authorities, one from each party on the county's ballot.

(223 posts)You can still make reasonable estimates (it's MATH). But I guess that's been a problem with republicans lately (ironic for the party of business)
I agree we should have federal standards. It makes no sense to have so many different rules for a federal election.

(2,791 posts)That's how we got here. Not enough of us (Dems) took the mid-terms seriously. We all did here, but out there... "we" didn't.
