1. Agreed. I don't understand how there is any question.

Any precedent we had has been obliterated, screw that.

Eventually we will get an honest decision. Plus all his delay tactics and pleas for sympathy can be quelled with if he hadn't created so many perpetual illegalities in his life he would not be facing so many courts. Run the gamut on him before he dies.

3. Had Trump simply gone home to Mar-a-Lago after losing in 2020, kept his damned mouth shut

and taken up some harmless hobby, like painting portraits of himself in the shower, Americans might be in a more forgiving mood right now.

But, who can forget Trump? He's like one of those 'Aliens' creatures that cannot be killed. The idiot continues to relentlessly create havoc and flaunt his criminality, daring the DOJ to stop him. Someone has to do something soon.

4. He needs to be indicted on 1, rock solid case,
Thu Sep 8, 2022, 07:31 AM
Sep 2022

like obstruction re: the classified documents. He was given way too much leeway to return what he had stolen. He lied to the FBI after a subpoena. We still don't know how many documents are missing.

Think about this for one minute; if Trump had complied with requests to return the documents he stole, he could have copied them, then returned them all and nothing would have been done to him, nothing. I'm not sure that DOJ has decided to indict him still? 3 months from now we will be talking about something else.

6. But "it's complicated" and "this isn't an episode of Law and Order"...

...and "we want to do this right, not mess it up by 'rushing' things".

Trump could be indicted or arrested tomorrow, and I won't be eating any crow over my cynical view of how Trump is being dealt with, because even tomorrow is more than a year late in my opinion.

On the other hand, all of your 'in quotes' phrases are correct, so ..
Maybe not.

By the way, the documents case became more complicated, and challenging, with the new ruling. I'm sure that doesn't make a whit of difference, but ..

10. There's more than enough evidence already to indict Trump yesterday
Thu Sep 8, 2022, 08:10 AM
Sep 2022

It might take time to collect all of the evidence and prepare all of the possible cases for all of the things Trump is guilty of, but the bastard could be charged and arrested right now on plenty of shit, and the rest could play out over time after that.

If all people really were "equal before the law" he'd have been arrested already.

If Trump were black, he'd probably have been gunned down already.

12. What's so much better about Trump running free while more potential charges pile up?
Thu Sep 8, 2022, 04:54 PM
Sep 2022

He's getting special treatment because of people being afraid, extra especially afraid in a way they wouldn't for anyone else, to prosecute and fail.

That fear in and of itself creates a situation where Trump is not equal before the law.

And as much as we scream and wail, and stamp our feet - that is still the stark reality. And yet another reason while the DOJ should move judiciously - and with a great degree of planning, strategy - and a true appreciation for the stakes involved.

And one more person (or in fact 20 more people) fulminating about "If that were me .. or anyone else .. " Doesn't change the fact that this is not - anyone else. Full stop.

It is especially dangerous not to indict Trump asap because he WAS a former President. You or I don't wield his dangerous influence.

what I'm arguing is that this happens on Garland's time line. (you know - the man with the evidence, the investigators, the prosecutors, and the thorough grounding in law?) And - that's just not good enough for a lot of posters on DU. I realize that, and I try to be a consistent dissenting vote.

You seem remarkably calm and accepting about this injustice. I see no good reason to defend an ugly, unjust status quo.
