Whether or not my ancestors left for religious or economic freedom is beside the point. I have always loved the Queen. She looks like my mother and always has. Those who don't can shut up about it.

pro-monarchical projection in the US.

I ture of the whole British lot and their ultra privileges drama, at least the Swedish royals are boring, far less empowered and expensive to maintain. Also no paedos recently who were several (now up to 8) heartbeats away from the Crown, as far as I know.

I likely (hopefully in terms of my own longevity if nothing else) will live to see another King George in 45, 50 years or so (sooner if there is an early death of William), very ironically who will be ruling during the time of the American Tricentennial (if both the USA, as a nation, and the UK, as a monarchy, still exist at that point).

Are you a British citizen?

I am, and I have said (since I first formulated thoughts on the subject) that it is well past time to end the monarchy.

I feel the same for Sweden and all other monarchies on the planet.

The concept of rule via bloodline is abhorrent to my view on humanity.

In the case of the Queen, I just admire her longevity and history especially post Henry VIII. The history is fascinating to me because if you look their political history you can clearly see the roots of our American government.

Why to people fawn over the royals? We tend to admire celebrity because they illustrate the things we’ve been taught to covet, however subconsciously. We all have dreams of wealth and fame and happiness and style and social influence and so on, which starts early with fairy tales and the way we raise our kids. Maybe it plays into our deep-seated attraction to heroism. I think that stays with us, to some extent, through our lives. Royals and other people, like Hollywood figures and Kardashian types, keep that phenomenon alive.

many Americans, myself included, feel strong cultural ties with Britain.

I admit I am sad at her passing. I saw her in real life once. I'm not normally a celebrity hound, but I was pretty jazzed by that.

And here's the thing. You don't have to get it. I don't get professional sports fans. But there ya go.

Or last night. They don't immediately announce to the world. The family needed to be notified first, followed by higher ups in the gov't. as they have with the past few monarchs' passing.

Now I wonder if that pic with the new MP was from an earlier meeting.

Thu Sep 8, 2022, 02:06 PM
Sep 2022

Queen Elizabeth, Canada's head of state and the longest-reigning British monarch, has died.

She died on Thursday afternoon at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, Buckingham Palace said in a short statement. She was 96.

"The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow," the palace said, in reference to the Queen's son Charles, who automatically became king upon her death, and his wife, Camilla.
