(25 posts)I couldn't believe that they didn't have the Omicron specific booster so I checked and guess what? They are offering the Omicron specific vaccine booster there!
I'm sorry to have doubted you but it's okay, it turns out you were completely wrong anyways!

(25 posts)I also live in a reddish area now (Maricopa county, AZ) and although I had to call around a little bit I was still able to find it on the same day. To tell the truth I was going to drive to CA to get it if I had to (can't be too proactive about preventing deadly illnesses, amirite?) but in the end I guess our governor and state legislature (or whoever it is that controls these things and makes it impossible to get covid vaccines in shithole red states) either willingly signed the permission slip for this life saving medication or were duped into it. Let's hope for the latter!

(102,292 posts)No reaction to it or the flu vax yesterday.
That said, I'm not really a "reactor," having had virtually nothing after any of my other series or boosters. In fact, my concern that I might not mount a good immune response has me ceasing all NSAIDs two days before and three days after to avoid suppressing any response. Thus I do feel my chronically bad ankle, but nothing else.
Good luck. Most reactions are minor so hopefully, that covers you too.

(14,912 posts)I might have a gentle exercise that might help some.
I had weakish ankles. Ice skating I really had have additional heavy socks, and quite tight lacings to feel safe doing it!
I had sprained my left ankle a bunch of times since ?66 - into the ?mid '80's.
By that time it was getting a bit stiff, and I was losing mobility in it. A holistic sports medicine doc with concentration in foot & leg injuries gave me an exercise that within a few months it all went away. I had full mobility again (and ever since)!
A year or two+ plus later I also started Tai Chi which really strengthened both my ankles (but that might not be for you).
Happy to share if you think might help.

(102,292 posts)to remove a bone cyst, so I have no cartilage and a lot of joint calcification At this point, nothing short of a joint fusion or full ankle replacement will help. The latter is not an orthopedic procedure for which I've found that US orthopods excel--unlike shoulders, knees, hips, and spinal surgeries, so if I get desperate enough I'd likely go overseas for it. That's not an option right now. But, I get around ok.
I do some acupuncture/electroacupuncture from time to time. That can help, but I have to limit exercise to non-impact. Walking, skiing, hiking, yoga, and pilates are fine, but running or ankle-intensive things like ice-skating would be a non-starter. I do miss it though.
I do appreciate the input, though.
electric_blue68
(14,912 posts)This exercise is totally non impact related.
But wow good luck, I hope the condition remains stable if it can't be Improved at it's current level, and your currentcircumstances.

That Delta booster was no joke, we both (and we had had origin strain Covid in April 2020, plus the two Beta original jabs, all with zero symptoms or reactions) were crazy sick (fever, chills, huge night sweats, bleeech, and headaches from hell, etc) for like 30 hours or so, but then if poofed and went away as quickly as it came.

(34,060 posts)i felt really bad b/c i encouraged them to get moderna rather than pfizer
but she thinks moderna is better so they're getting the new moderna booster too
my first was j&j & the chills were so intense--never had anything like that before. the moderna boosts didn't have me too sick.
which reminds me--it seemed that eating a lot of protein helped. probably just my imagination but...

(43,415 posts)When we had origin strain Covid, it was completely asymptomatic, only way we knew was a test at my job came up positive and then we both had it confirmed via additional tests. That's how we got into the vax trial programme in the first place. All Moderna, except for the last jabs, when they did a combo of Pfizer (non variant half dose) and Moderna (Moderna jab was BA.5 tweaked full dose) as a side investigational 'arm'.
We are on break from it all (other than blood draws to see B cell, T helper, T killer, and antibody levels, which we just did yet again earlier this week), until a new variant tweaked experimental jab comes out, perhaps BA.2.75-tweaked (the newest widely-spread Omicron variant, if came from India, and was first observed in May 2022), if that variant keeps growing. It has additional mutations outside the spike protein.

It was frustrating at first as the variants would come and go so fast the other jabs we took were just retired, so we felt like we were just treading water, but we stuck at it, as we felt a sense of duty.
Trust me, that Delta specific one would not have been a fun one, LOLOLOL. Most of the people here in our very small Swedish trial had heavy reactions to that one, the most by far, according to our study doctors and nurses.
I detest anti vaxxers, btw, they have ZERO excuses (no one is asking them to roll the dice like we gladly chose to do, all they have to do is take the regular, extraordinarily tested and safe jab) and they kill people.

(5,942 posts)Got it at 3 pm. Felt great when I went to bed. Then woke up in the middle of the night with chills and feeling like crap. Spent the next day with a massive headache and extreme fatigue and body aches with a little bit of nausea thrown in. Had no appetite for several days. Interestingly my reactions in the past to my boosters all took 24 to 48 hours to kick in. This time it was 12 hours, and I was down for the count.
One big difference was my arm. I've always had extreme reactions at the site of the injection. With both boosters I got covid arm. This time no redness, no swelling and the pain was gone after 2 days.

Pfizer for the first 2 shots and first booster. Second and this third booster are Modernas. Only Moderna kicks my butt a little. But that means it's working, right?

This Moderna booster was easier on me than the last one I received. That one gave me mild flu symptoms. Before that I only had Pfizer which didn't give me any unusual symptoms outside the soreness at the vax site.

(102,292 posts)And I have also administered a lot of doses at the mass clinics, after which many told me they felt nothing with zero bleeding. The needles are small and experienced administrators should get a minimal response unless the receiver really tenses up.
...got it this morning...(9-8-22, 11:45am)
...actually I got the new COVID booster along with a flu shot...I had her put it in my left...she put them in about a half inch apart...
...the COVID needle I could hardly feel, the flu shot needle a little more...
...according to the paperwork, I got,
COVID 19 Pfizer updated booster 12 +
FLUZONE HD 65 + PF 2033-23 INJ 0.7ml
...it's now 9-8-22, 10:15pm and my arms a little sore, I feel a bit 'foggy'...so far for me, the two are not worse than an ordinary flu shot...
...I'll let you know if I'm dying tomorrow...if you don't hear from me, all is well...I'm a 74 year old male in reasonable health...
...I figured I'd get both at the same time to see the effects and to get it over with...I might as well get used to it...COVID's not going anywhere, neither is the flu, and I don't feel like playing around...
...I talked to my cardiologist and he said I shouldn't have any problem...
...maybe in the future they'll come out with COVID and the flu all in one shot...

(28,866 posts)my sore arms are already better.
I got the flu shot also.
I just got mine this evening not long after waking up and hearing the news about the queen. I went to a Walgreens because that was the only place in my area that had the new vaccine booster and I got the Moderna version. I had to wait there for almost an hour it was so busy and they had no one to do just the vaccines and only three people- she forgot about me after doing someone elses Vaccine. I was sitting and reading my phone and I finally went up and asked what is going on Ive been here for an hour. This was with an appointment.
And she apologized that she forgot about me, lol. It makes me think that a lot of people that want to get a vaccine might not because they know theyre gonna have to be waiting and having problems making appointments and stuff like that. There needs to be a better way to get to Vaccines in this country.
Unfortunately since it only just came out Im not going to be fully immune and Im starting teaching next week, but I will be wearing my mask as usual. I just hope it doesnt make me more vulnerable to getting a new strain because Ive heard you could be more vulnerable in the first week of having a vaccine- Im not sure if theres any validity to that or not.
Im just starting to feel my usual reaction which is myalgia and malaise- I havent taken my temperature yet but I know Im going to need painkillers before I go to sleep probably.
For the second booster I got moderna because my hematologist said it would be good to get a different vaccine that time which may cover different strains better. I had worse myalgia with it than with pfizer. I always react to every vaccine I get so its pretty normal for me. The flu vaccine is worse than usual and I feel sick for two weeks after that I havent gotten that yet. I never get more than one vaccine at once because of my reactions unless its some type of emergency. I recently had a bad statin reaction last week which caused terrible muscle pain I just hope they dont influence each other because I still have to get testing for statin resistance and I didnt manage to do it yet.
I just realized I have had five Covid shots in the space of about two years. I have never had this many vaccines for one thing in my life and Im hoping eventually its only going be going to be once per year. I am grateful of course to be able to have and get the vaccines but its starting to get exhausting to have to get them every three or four months and to go through these reactions. Its still better than dying from Covid of course or getting more damage

(5,164 posts)Hopefully I will feel better by Monday. My arm is not too bad yet.
I hope you get your shot soon. and it all goes ok. 😁
I will prolly be the only one there with a mask.
Hopefully one day we will be free of this. We were thinking we need to get the polio booster now too, and I still need shingrix and another pneumonia, the new one.
I got a pneumonia and flu shot on the same day once a few years ago, I had two frozen arms and I was sick for at least a month, with fever and everything, so, never again. I think I also got the flu b that spring anyway, ugh.
I forgot to mention that after my last pfizer booster, I had a bad reaction, palpitations and heart symptoms for a week.. fortunately the last two are ok so far, just the usual stuff with worse myalgia. So far this feels a lot milder than taking one statin pill 😹 So far the bivalent seems the same as the other one.

(13,496 posts)Had second booster last spring, and my husband and daughter both had it in may/june. (I never got it then, but I assume I was exposed to it bc my daughter slept in bed with me the whole time. I was prepared to go down with her while my husband tried to stay away from us. He got it. I didn't. It was bizarre. And I tested daily, including a few PCR tests.)
So I've decided bc numbers are going down and 2/3 of my household is as protected as can be with boosters and former cases... I'm going to wait til mid-october so that I can get through Christmas/New Years hopefully without waning immunity.
A close friend of mine got it. She had a bad reaction, but she's had a bad reaction to all the original doses she had. (I haven't, so I'm not worried.) Another friend got it, and she said it was a piece of cake.

I was actually less sick with the new booster than the other Covid vaccines and boosters.
They made me sick for three days, flat in bed sick.
With the new omicron booster, I did get tired, chills, didn't feel great for a day.
Did have a restless night with bad dreams the first night.
But just felt tired for one day. I am happy with that outcome.

(24,890 posts)My arm is pretty sore. I feel a little bit wonky but nothing like the second first round shot. I'm still going to mask up at work. Occasionally have to speak to people without a mask so I guess I'm about as protected as I can be now.
My biggest fear from this piece of shit virus is repeat infections over a multi-year period. There are a number of people including my pharmacist who thinks that the second third fourth fifth time some serious organ failure or diabetes or something else will pop up.
Why can't covid make people smarter? Or maybe taller? Or maybe help them lose weight. Well it does that when they're on a vent but I'm not talking about that.
Instead it just does shitty things to people..

(123 posts)60 years old and very fat, I had gotten Pfizer shots the previous 4 times, last one in April. This time I had to visit a CVS in neighboring town because the usual cvs didn't have any available for the first 3 days I tried.
This one was the Moderna. No fever, swelling or ache. It was 3 days ago.
When making the appointment online, it didn't show that it was the new bivalent one.
When I tried to call, the answering machine was saying it was going to be available soon. But once I showed up, the pharmacist told me it was the new one, and the vaccine card was filled as the new bivalent one.

I got the omicron booster Thursday midday. Yesterday I ran a temp of 101.5 and felt very crappy, normal for me after a shot.
But it seems like the effects are shorter this time.
I'm much better today, temp is down to 99.5, flu-ey symptoms are mostly gone, energy is coming back. Before I would have 4 full days of flu symptoms.
