When I cast my ballot for Joe Biden in November 2020, I was convinced that I was voting for a decent and honourable man, one who would do his best to unite a divided country and right the wrongs done by his predecessor.
Starry-eyed - and perhaps a bit politically naive - I assumed that he would recognize the limitations of his office and would work within the boundaries set by his opponents, ever cautious of the consequences of moving too fast, too boldly, too determined to do the right thing.
What I got was a President who has exceeded all expectations - a President not content with playing defense, but a man more than willing to take the fight to the "other side of the aisle" and demand that those who are anti-democracy defend their statements, their actions, and their participation in attempting to overthrow the government they now claim to want to preserve and protect.
I voted for a mild-mannered, self-deprecating, ever-humble Clark Kent - what I got was Superman.

(9,730 posts)To underline a word, click on the little "u" before typing it and again after typing it. The word will appear underlined. Same thing with the "b" if you want to make a word bold and the "i" if you want to italicize a word.

(6,918 posts)Joe is the perfect example of the old Chinese proverb: dont interrupt telling someone they cant succeed while they are doing it, or something like that.
The chatter around him is the perfect cover while he pushes all the right buttons and pulls all the right levers of power in his reach.

(5,844 posts)It wasn't that long ago he was still talking about bipartisanship and not saying anything inflammatory when pushed.
Something changed. Maybe his advisors took him aside and convinced him that he needed to exactly explain the clear and present danger that the country is in, and he needs to use the bully pulpit to change public opinion. And it's working. I posted (in this forum) an article to a new poll, and people are now seeing the dangers. He's convincing people, and the more he talks about it, the more people see the magat movement for what it is.
Thanks, Joe! I've gotta say, I like this Joe Biden a WHOLE LOT BETTER.

Historians privately warn Biden that Americas democracy is teetering

I'm ecstatic that Biden has finally taken the gloves off to deal with the issue. It had to be done, and he and other Democrats need to keep strongly pushing the message through the midterms and beyond. I saw the poll you mentioned (probably in your post) and it's heartening that people are paying attention and responding.
Go, Joe, go!

Calling out these motherfuckers is good advice and I am so here for it!
For too long the Rs have gotten away with calling Dems pedophiles and all manner of odious lies and we rarely punch back. Biden is punching back and he's doing it in a big way. The fact that they lost their fuckin' minds over it tells us that it's successful. THAT'S how you deal with bullies.
It's not wrong to call a fascist a fascist.

(199 posts)I remember years ago when we used to refer to Biden as D-MBNA (a reference to all of the credit card companies located at that time in Delaware, and Joe's favorable view of them). I was concerned when he was selected as Obama's VP. All of my concerns were misplaced. While as VP he was a part of the best presidency in recent history, what he is doing now as POTUS is exceeding all expectations, and I think he will be remembered as one of the best!

I had the great privilege of shaking his hand in January of 2020, before the Iowa primary, and told him that I had caucused for him in 2008. He flashed that million dollar smile, took my phone, and snapped a great selfie of the two of us....
